If you give me a game picture trailer or article I'll add you you the credits list.
General Info Developed by: Lucasarts & Rebellin Studios In Stores: Buy it Now! Genre: Shooting Rating
Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron, the next installment of the best-selling Star Wars Battlefront series of video games, will hit store shelves everywhere in fall 2007, LucasArts announced today. In development exclusively for the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system by U.K.-based Rebellion, Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron continues the immensely successful Battlefront series, which has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide since its introduction in 2004. The only original Star Wars Battlefront experience of 2007, Renegade Squadron delivers a new way for players to experience their favorite Star Wars battles any way -- and anywhere -- they want. The game presents new battles and missions found through a never-before-told story, as well as an unprecedented wealth of personalization and customization options. And for the first time on the PSP system, Star Wars Battlefront players can team up or compete online with friends all over the world. Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron is the previously untold story of a ragtag ensemble of battle-hardened rogues and scoundrels assembled by Han Solo. Gathered to execute some of the most secretive operations in the Rebel Alliance's war against the Galactic Empire, the Renegade Squadron participates in battles spanning the galaxy. From the Valley of the Sith on Korriban to a dogfight in space through the remains of Alderaan, Solo directs the team on missions of sabotage, rescue and retrieval. In Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron, robust customization options replace the class system seen in previous Star Wars Battlefront titles, allowing for millions of possible unique combatants. With weapons, equipment and abilities that players select themselves, no two allies will likely ever look or perform exactly the same. The game also boasts expanded multiplayer options for the PSP system. Up to 16 players will be able to compete against each other over the Internet and eight via the PSP system's ad-hoc wireless connection. "Multiplayer, the Carbonite Freeze Gun and More Weapons, Weapons, Weapons Hey, it's Mike again!
One of the coolest things about Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron is its multiplayer capabilities. We’ve been doing tonnes of multiplayer testing over the past few weeks, and it’s a blast. The online ranking tables are fuelling fierce competition in our office, as we all battle for those top slots. We look forward to having our pitiful scores soundly beaten when the game is released and you guys get your hands on it!
What I’m most pleased with is that there doesn’t seem to be a ‘killer’ equipment configuration that dominates the rest, and people are discovering new favourite combos even after months of play. It’s pretty cool to see players adapting their customization load-outs in response to other players' choices. For instance, people quickly realised that if they maxed out their speed and stamina and got the stamina power-up too, they could create a super-fast character ideal for flag-capturing in Capture the Flag modes. This seemed pretty overpowered for a while, but then the Carbonite Freeze Gun (a previously underrated weapon) emerged as an excellent counter to this strategy, stopping the nimble scout in his tracks.
My personal favourite tactic is to freeze someone, then tag them with an Orbital Strike beacon -- the victim can see the strike building up, but is powerless to evade it. It’s a bit tricky to pull off, so it’s not the most efficient tactic, but it sure is satisfying!
I wanted to show you the Carbonite Freeze Gun to go with this entry...but then I figured, "Hey...why not show almost all of the weapons in the game?" So, here you go..."

From: GameSpy Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron is the second Battlefront title to come to the PSP. Just try not to get confused when you remember that the first PSP entry was called Star Wars Battlefront II. We would accuse LucasArts of trying to confuse us, but the fact is, Battlefront II was a port of the console game of the same name (which was, of course, a sequel to the popular Star Wars Battlefront).
Battlefront II was a pretty good game, but it suffered from awkward controls and terrible multiplayer framerates. Seeing as how the game was originally designed for consoles before being quickly squeezed onto the PSP, problems such as this weren't all that surprisingly. Despite these problems, the game sold like crazy -- enough to convince LucasArts to create an entirely new Battlefront title that's optimized for Sony's handheld system.
And that leaves us with Renegade Squadron, which chronicles the adventures of the titular group of heroes. They're a band of soldiers put together by Han Solo and led by a man named Col Serra. The Renegades are called into duty to tackle some of the most dangerous and covert missions that face the Rebel Alliance after the battle of Yavin 4 (that's the end of the original "Star Wars" movie to you and me). Serra's tale is told in Campaign mode, the game's main single-player mode, through a series of comic book-style cut scenes with full voiceover.
The actual gameplay is pretty much what you've come to expect from this series. You run around a map shooting at bad guys while attempting to accomplish a particular goal. Usually, this involves collecting an item, wiping out the opposing army, or capturing enemy command posts. Occasionally, you'll play a space mission that allows you to pilot one of several ships. Here, you're usually attacking vulnerable spots on the enemy's capital ship. You can also dock in their vessel to take them out from the inside.
Unfortunately, Campaign mode is frustratingly short. After a couple of hours of shooting at Stormtroopers, you're watching the credits roll. I suppose that's what happens when you limit the narrative to only two of the six Star Wars movies. I mean, if you're going to make up a group of new characters for a game, couldn't you make it so their exploits would take more than an afternoon to plow through? The CPU's often questionable AI doesn't help matters, either. It's almost tougher to lose a battle in Campaign mode than it is to win them.
All Too Easy
Equally short is the other big single-player mode, Conquest. There's no storytelling here, just a series of battles linked by simplistic strategy elements where you purchase and deploy troops to occupy new planets. Having to do a little bit of thinking before the fights is nice, but once again the difficulty and length works against this mode. It's just over way too soon. The final single-player mode is Instant Action, which simply dumps you into a battle of your choosing for when you want to make with the "pew pew" but don't want any of that annoying structure or planning. The real meat of the game lies in the multiplayer mode, which has been greatly improved from its predecessor. Before, only four people could play at once, and it had to be over ad hoc -- pretty lame. Now, eight people can complete over ad hoc, and up to 16 can battle over infrastructure. The frame-rate problems that plagued the original seem to have been cleared up as well. The multiplayer Conquest and Space Assault games play just like the bulk of the missions in the single-player modes.
There are also three Capture the Flag variants, with the most interesting being Hero CTF. Here, you can snag your own team flag and become a Hero. That is, you take control of one of the main characters in the Star Wars saga, usually a Jedi or a Sith Lord. The Heroes are extremely powerful, but since you are now carrying your team's flag, the entire opposing team will be hunting you down. This adds an extra level of excitement to the matches.
Thankfully, the controls have been tweaked from the previous release. Gone (well, not really) are the awkward "use the face buttons to aim" controls that the original used. Now, a simple lock-on system makes tracking the enemy a breeze. This control scheme does eliminate your ability to easily look around, so you can switch to the old-fashioned controls if you want. Just don't bother using the old controls when you play online. Everyone else will be using the lock-on to make Bantha poodoo out of you while you're still trying to get your sights lined up.
The starfighter controls have also been simplified, although perhaps a bit too much. Now, to take out an enemy ship, you merely have to activate your ship's auto pilot, which will lead you right to your target. From there, you just have to match the enemy's speed and pound on that fire button. It really takes any sort of technique out of the space battles, causing them to feel somewhat dull.
To be honest, though, the space battles always felt secondary in Battlefront. It's the foot-based missions that people play this game for. And to be more specific, it's the multiplayer foot-based missions that are enjoyable. You'll have even more fun with the multiplayer mode when you start messing around with the fairly extensive custom character creator. Not only can you change your fighter's appearance, but you can also outfit them with the ideal set of weapons and items to match your fighting style. It's too bad that Renegade Squadron's single-player experience is over so soon, but think of it as training for the hours you're bound to spend online.
