Hey guys,

I just downloaded the optional firmware 2.43 and the system actually seems more resposive. Anyway, I booted up Gran Turismo 5 and was browsing around the options when I noticed something interesting: When you uncheck the "Disable Advanced Downloading" it asks you to "accept" or "decline"

In the past you used to get a warning message saying this feature would be enabled in a future firmware update. Well this message no longer pops up. I guess now we know what the firmware update did in addition to speeding up the XMB.

Note to others: "Unlike previous updates, firmware v2.43 is specific to the Japan region, and only PS3 users there will be required to install the update."

Cheers,

Having not yet installed the update, I went to the 'Enable Advanced Download Feature', and was able to uncheck the box (as it was checked when I first checked :smileytongue: ), then check the box again, and get the same user agreement Accept or Decline screen, so this has nothing to do with the firmware update.

Based on what little I've read about 2.43, we'll have to see if the new feature will/may eventually apply to GT:TV:

" From Wednesday, September 24, it will be possible to download carefully selected high-quality titles such as Anime which all game users can enjoy, in a rental format that makes them viewable for a limited time.

– this is the only functionality it says has been added."

Cheers,

That's very interesting. I heard that the update really only applied to Japan, but since I have a Japanese account on my machine (I did it to get the Prologue demo back when we couldn't get it here State-side/North America-side), I figured I would download it anyway. However, since it looks like it positively affects how GT-Prologue downloads content (e.g., GT-TV, updates, etc.), then it looks like a good thing. Now, if only the fine people at Polyphony could find it in their hearts and schedules to get us some more content, specifically, tracks (Nurburgring and any others) and some cars (Ferrari California), then all shall be well. GT-TV is interesting, but I want some tracks, dang it!!! Even if it is just an up-rezzed version of the GT4 Nurburgring, I really am just dying for some more tracks to drive on. And more cars are always a good thing.

So what reasons are there for accepting this firmware update, or not?
