Cool... but...

First, notice the asterisk beside the date. Any guesses on what the fine print, that asterisk is associated too, says?

3/30/10 is the confirmed Japanese release date, so it could be something from Japan. Everything Kaz says for North America and Europe is 'shortly after' that date.

Faithfully recreated on the best-selling Sony PlayStation game Gran Turismo 4, the ’Ring has come to life in more than 50million homes across the globe.

Before anyone gets teary-eyed or jealous over this number, "more than 50M" refers to total GT units sold, not just GT4 units sold. :smileyvery-happy:
Journalists...

I think Turn 10 would get a bit envious of GT, and SONY would be breaking their arms patting themselves on the back, if this were only true. At one point, at the peak, GT units compared to PS2 units had about a 1:2 ratio. That included GT1, 2, 3 and 4 against PS2 consoles. With PS3 sales now just topping 25M, it might be a bit tough getting a GT5 : PS3 ratio of 1:2.

Cheers,

Hands up if you think you might rival this number?

My hand is up.  The Ring and the Circuit De Le Sarthe were two of my favorite courses in GT4 and I spent a lot of time on both.

Kaz was reviewed in this month's Official UK PlayStation Magazine. He said a few interesting things. Which I will now type and highlight and format for you people! :smileywink:

When asked about GT5's GT Mode, Kaz said, "Gamers' habits are very different than back in 1997 when we released the first Gran Turismo. They're spending less time with a single game and this is reflected in the design of GT Mode." I'm guessing we'll have to except more bite-sized chunks? No more 99-lap epics? As always, we'll see.

When OPM asked about DLC for GT5, Mr. Gran Turismo seemed to get a little bit frustrated, "Let me be clear on this. There is a massive amount of content in this game, I don't think there are many teams that put as much into a game as we can. The launch of the game isn't a start, we are releasing a full game. Everything we want to put into the game is on the disc when it ships. Having said that, we do have a sizeable online team that will look after it once it's launched." I guess KY is getting pretty annoyed with EVERY reviewer asking the same DLC question...

When asked about night racing and weather effects, Kaz had this to say, "Night racing is going to be a part of GT5, but with things like dynamic weather, the choice is about whether it will improve the experience. The functionality is not a problem - we've got the weather system done - but if we are not sure about the quality of it, and how it improves the driving experience, we are not going to have it in the game." PD are remaining perfectionists and it re-iterates the point that if it's not perfect, it won't be in the game.

Strangely, the author of the artice wrote two different things regarding track count. Here's what he wrote, "Elsewhere there are over 20 tracks with 70 claimed variations..." And, "The Gran Turismo series started in 1997 on PS1. The first game included just 178 cars and 11 tracks, compared too GT5's 950 rides and 70 circuits." I'm hoping the second quote is correct!

OPM also claim to have a "HUGE GT5 feature" ready for next month's issue (released on November 24th). I'll pick it up and let everyone know if there's something new in the artice/feature.

Good job Calvin. Thanks.

That seems to just be a synopsis of the interviews since E3.

It eases my nerves about DLC, that all the cars that are going to be in the game, will ship with the cars they intended, if it isn't in the game, I think it's safe to say it will never be (at least GT5.)

Night racing is great, but is it real time? Or is it just a day race, and a night race you can choose between. Dynamic weather would be really great to add, but I think I might find myself turning it off more than often for the ease of my racing career in the game. I might turn it on for some novelty races, but overall it might anger me as well as most other casual players.

Yeah, I pondered over that too. I can't see why "normal" night racing would be missing in any full GT game, but dynamic would be extra special.

And @ ForgetfuI, you're right about it all being everything asked after E3 in one basket. I guess the interviewers need to think up some new questions, and Kaz needs to start giving new answers! :smileyvery-happy:

Still no release date, huh. What takes marketing so long to pick a date? Can't they just look at yearly game sale trends, pick the highest point on the graph, and say "GT5 will be released here." Anyone here know a thing or two about marketing that can fill me in?

As for weather, they could indiscriminately slap that thing on arcade mode and it will improve the experience IMO. But with PD being perfectionists, I'm not surprised they are taking their time to make sure everything is up to their own standards. And I'm not complaining, when it comes to waiting, we're all pros by now.

Besides wanting to release a full game, they seem to have finally made a complete 180° reversal since the original GT:HD plan went awry. It don't sound as if they have big plans for DLC now.

Hmmm, maybe our reaction to DLC of GT:TV is affecting this, too.
We don't hear much about that any more.

Cheers,

Yeah, weren't there gonna be two version of GT:HD? One with every car from GT4 in it, and another where you have to buy the cars you want with REAL money. Or something like that. Besides, that was waaay back in 2006. GT5 is gonna be released around 4 years after that announcement, you can see how PD have changed their visions for the GT franchise and it's debut on the PS3.
