Free Agent Signing: Can go crazy and buy anyone

Draft: have NCAA 08 draft classes but it wont import them, little help?

Hello and welcome, another draft is over and it looks like there are some top prospects

in this year’s draft. So let’s start by discussing the top five picks in this year’s draft.

Shannon gives us your opinion on the top 5 picks in this year’s draft. Well I’ll start with

Jamarcus Russell who was drafted out of LSU and was drafted by the Raiders; this kid

can throw the ball so far and can move around in the pocket. His size means it will be

virtually impossible to sack him and he is coming of a very nice season and Sugar Bowl

with LSU. He got his two receivers drafted in the first round this year so he’s good.

Calvin Johnson was a WR at Georgia Tech and was drafted by the Detroit Lions.

This young man is probably the best athlete in this years draft and is a very good player.

In college he was able to beat double coverage which proves how damn good he is and

he can run at 4.35 which is very good considering he is 6-5 239 pounds. Joe Thomas the

Tackle out of Wisconsin was drafted by Cleveland and is a very good player. He is big and

an excellent pass blocker. He is also quite quick for a tackle so he can get down field and

make the blocks. Hold on there Shannon, just before you talk about Gaines Adams lets

talk about the decision by the Browns not drafting Brady Quinn. Coach what did you

think about this move. Well Boomer Brady Quinn is a good talent but how can you

pass on a guy like Joe Thomas. They read the draft well and still managed to get Brady

Quinn later so it was a good decision as I think Derek Anderson could have a break

out year this year. Sorry Shannon continue, Gaines Adams the defensive end out of

Clemson. Extremely good pass rusher and is very quick. He will come off the snap very

quickly. Not very big which means he isn’t that great against the run. Levi Brown was

drafted by the Cardinals and is out of Penn state. This guy really improved over the last

two months before the draft with big performances. He is big and smart and is a big

asset to the Cardinals line. He has the potential to be one of the best linemen in the NFL.

Thanks Shannon. We had a discussion earlier and we all agree that the player to watch out

for in this years draft class is and that player is Adrian Peterson. His elusive speed and

power makes him one of the best players in the NFL. The only reason he was drafted

lower was because of his injury problems. Now I know 7 does not sound low but he

has the talent to be the best player in the league. So another year is about to begin so

before we go we will say who we thought had the best draft. Key: Browns,

Shannon: 49ers, Coach: Colts and I am going with the Ravens. So long

The Ravens Draft for 07

1st Round: Ben Grubbs, G, Auburn, will start right away, good run blocker but tends to get confused on pass blocking, good pick up for Baltimore.

2ndRound: Yamon Figurs, Wr/Kr, KansasState, very quick and will return kicks and punts for the Ravens. Can’t catch definitely a special team’s guy.

3rd Round: Marshall Yanda, T, Iowa, struggles to pass block, average run blocker.

4th Round: Antwan Barnes, Lb, Florida International, very agile and quick, knows how to sack to the Quarterback.

4th Round: Le’Ron McClain, Fb, Alabama, good run blocker, will start right away, good at the short yardage plays.

5th Round: Troy Smith, Qb, OhioState, Heisman winner, has potential but will need work, quick and elusive, very short for qb which is why drafted so low

6th Round:Prescott Burgess, Lb, Michigan, has experience in big games, not very big will play in special teams.

I apoligize for my lack of NFl knowledge. I know that the names i have said for the panel are incorrect so i am sorry.

If things sre completly wrong i am sorry.

So what do you think?

Please give me some coments.

THE MARYLAND POST

Billick needs to impress or…..

Brian Billick is in a situation of did I really do that. After the Ravens went 13-3 last year and clinched the number two seed in the playoffs Billick has done the unthinkable and totally changed there offence and given them a whole new playbook. He has done this as he has brought a new guard in Larry Allen and a running back in Willis Mcgahee. Not only this but Kyle Boller is expected to start and Troy Smith the Rookie from Ohio State will be his back up and Steve McNair will be released and turned into a quarterback coach for the two younger men. Obviously Billick would like to implement a running game approach as he has brought in a very special talent in Willis Mcgahee and drafted a very good run blocker in Leron McClain at Fullback. He also drafted Ben Grubbs in the first round. Grubbs is a very good run blocker, but can sometimes get confused on pass blocking.  Expect Mcgahee to run a lot to the left as new acquisition Larry Allen provides comfort for Mcgahee. With Ogden next to him they form one of the best partnerships in the NFL. You would expect Derrick mason to stand up alongside Todd Heap for the receiving department as Mark Clayton is still only a two year guy, however he has shown great improvement in the last two years. Now to the defence, would you expect things to change to a defence which got them to the divisional playoffs last year? Well there is only one change and that is at outside linebacker. This change came because Audalius Thomas was signedby the Patriots so the Ravens have brought in Takeo Spikes from the Buffalo Bills. No other changes beside that one. Brian Billick is an excellent coach and is in the last year of his contract. These moves could have cost him his job or it could get him a big pay rise. I think that these moves are good ones by Billick as his offence was what cost them the game against the Colts last year in the Playoffs. Jamal Lewis was big and powerful, however there line was one of the worst in the league. Now with a young new running back and a huge and powerfuloffensive line there running game could challenge to be one of the best in the NFL. The Ravens have a very tough 6 game streak. They play the Steelers at Pittsburgh followed by a visit from the high power offence of Cincinnati. The Cleveland Browns who look to be a playoff contender are next in line, and then they play the three best teams in football in a row. The Chargers, the Patriots and the Colts. A very tough schedule for the Ravens and considering they have to play one of the top offences, Cincinnati, twice as well as Pittsburgh twice it could be looking bad at Baltimore. However I predict the Ravens to go 12-4 as Willis Mcgahee will be in the top five rushers in the league and will have over 1,300 yards. Watch out for Todd Heap as well as the Ravens passing game will revolve around him. The Ravens will make it to the playoffs with the top run defence and the top defence overall and will make it to the AFC championship game in my opinion. However I think that New England will be too good and will beat the Ravens in the AFC divisional playoffs. Brian Billick is a brave man and is putting his job on the line. Will he keep his job or not, will the Ravens make the playoffs, will the Ravens defence be as good as last year? All these questions will be answered all you need to do is watch the Ravens every Sunday Afternoon.

I recently visited Baltimore to get a glance at the team who are expected to be a powerhouse in the NFL. While I was there I noticed some unusual things. Firstly we’ll start with the offence; I think that Willis Mcgahee could be competing with LaDainian Tomlinson for being the best running back in the NFL. His offensive line was doing wonders at training camp and his drills were being almost aced. Baltimore has tried to make Willis Mcgahee a little bit heavier as he has the power to be a trucking beast and it has worked successfully as he is knocking everyone down. This power added to Mcgahee’s speed and agility makes him one of if not the best running back in the league. Another very important thing I learnt was that Troy Smith is looking like he will be the starter. Both Smith and Boller were taking snaps but Smith seems to be taking more snaps and is probably going to start the NFL season even though he is a rookie. Mark Clayton looks to be the quickest man in the Ravens team and is looking very sharp. His explosive speed and agility could get him pass defenders and will be Troy Smith’s deep pass guy as Heap and Mason will be catching the short passes. Mark Clayton looks as though that he has improved by plenty on his catching ability and was making spectacular catches all day. Another important thing is that whenever the Ravens pass it looks like they move into shotgun for about 75% of the passes. This could be a huge gamble as defences will know what they are doing. Now to the defence; it looks as though that they will play in 4-3 for the most part and only slipping into 3-4 on third and long and in other certain situations. There defence is looking very strong and looks to be the best in the NFL. Ray Lewis looks to be in the best form in his career and I asked him how he felt he was feeling and if he thought the ravens where a Super Bowl contender and he had this to say “I feel great, I worked hard in the off season and am working very hard here at training camp to progress my game. Yes I do believe that we can win the Superbowl. Our defence is great with the addition of Spikes and our offence is looking good also. I’m just excited to get started this year and get the boys pumped up for another season”.
So Ray Lewis sounds confident and that is definitely the feeling in Baltimore. Now I do have one concern on the defence and it is there pass defence. Samari Rolle is looking like he is getting to the end of his career and Dawan Landry is more of a run stopper. However when Ed Reed and Chris McAlister are back there it still is a dangerous thing to throw. Billick said that he doesn’t want Dawan to become a pass defender as he said he would prefer to have a run defender at the StrongSafety position. So that’s all I have for now. One week until Pre Season, so enjoy the Upcoming NFL year.

How am i going for my first chise, i will start playing tommorow. Post the results next couple of days.
Do you want me to use a smaller font?
And no i am going to Sign Mike Singeltary as my Hed Coach next year.
I want to fire Rex Ryan but it would give me a cap penalty. He cost us the game against the Pats.
Kudos!

Free Agents

The Baltimore Ravens have been in talks with several players including the likes of Juran Bolden, Lavar Arrington, DD Lewis, William Green, Daylon McCutchenson and Kenard Lang. The players above have been working out with the Ravens as they look to strengthen the depth of there defence and improve there special teams. Other players that are in workouts with NFL teams are Lamont Thompson who looks about ready to sign with the Jets. More news from Free agency is that Al Wilson is ready to make a comeback and said “give me a shot; I am ready to come back and play. The doctors have cleared me and I’m ready”. More news is that the Packers will use the Free agency to strengthen there offensive line. The San Diego Chargers have announced that they are very close to terms with Donovin Darius. The veteran that was cut by Jacksonville is ready to jump on the field as he has been in San Diego for the last 3 weeks. The Chargers have also expressed interest in Al Wilson. They wont these two players to add experience to there young defence. That is all we have for now so tune in later for more updates.

A SEASON IN PREVIEW

Well here we are again. Another NFL season is upon us and we are here today to discuss the upcoming NFL season. We will decide who will make the playoffs, who will win MVP, and most importantly who will win the Super Bowl. So let’s get started. We will begin in the NFC north were the defending NFC champion Bears will look to go back to the Super Bowl. However there are 3 other contenders. This division will be very close and expect Green Bay and especially Minnesota with there rookie running back Adrian Peterson to put up a fight. The Bears defence led by Brian Urlachler, Tommie Harris, Lance Briggs, Nathan Vasher, Charles Tillman, Mike Brown and Adewale Ogunleyne are the second best defence behind Baltimore and with speedster Bernard Berrian and the quickest man in the NFL Devin Hester on the team expect Chicago to make it deep into the playoffs. Green Bay led by veteran Brett Farve and Donald Driver as well as a great defence with the likes of Al Harris, Charles Woodson, Nick Barnett and Aaron Kampman could make it to the playoffs through the Wildcard. The Vikings defence is great at defending the run with Kevin and Pat Williams as well as E.J. Henderson. With Peterson and Taylor swapping in the backfield. The Vikings have a strong chance. However we have decided that the bears defence will be too good and that the Bears win the division. NFC south, this division will be played out by three teams, Carolina, New Orleans and TampaBay. The early favourites are the Panthers as there passing game is very good and with DeAngelo Williams at running back there offence is explosive. There run defence is in the top 10 in the league and expect Chris Gamble to have a big year. The Saints will be the other team to look out for as Drew Brees and Reggie Bush are one of the best quarterback running back tandems in the NFL. Panthers to win the division. NFC east now and with all four teams having opportunities to make the playoffs you know this division will be tight. Expect Dallas to win it with there very young and strong offence with the likes of Marion Barber, Tony Romo, Jason Witten, Leonard Davis and Terrell Owens. There defence led by DeMarcus Ware, Terrance Newman and Tank Johnson is good and expect them to win this division with the Eagles right behind them. The Eagles have McNabb and Westbrook on there offence. They could be dangerous. Moving to the NFC west were the Seahawks, Cardinals, Rams and 49ers all have a chance at the title of NFC west but we have decided that the Cardinals and Seahawks are the leading contenders. The Cardinals defence is under rated and with Larry Fitzgerald, Anquain Boldin and Edgerrin James on offence they will be a serious threat. The Seahawks are led by matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander on offence and Lofa Tatapu, Julian Peterson and Marcus Trufant on defence. They too could post a threat to the playoffs. We predict the Cardinals to win the division. So the NFC looks like this:

Divisonal Winners     Wild Card
By Record                By Record

Final Words on NFC

The MVP for the NFC will be Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys. This young man will play brilliantly and will lead the Cowboys to the Superbowl. Second place will be Brian Urlacher who will be awarded defensive player of the year in the NFC. Above is what our predictions are for the NFC. We predict that the NFC championship game will be between the best two teams in the NFC; the Bears and the Cowboys. We predict the Cowboys to win and advance to the Superbowl. Tune in next week for the AFC Preview.

A SEASON IN PREVIEW

We will now preview the AFC. Starting with the north. The Baltimore Ravens are the favourites for this division. There defence led by Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Takeo Spikes, Trevor Pryce, Haloti Ngata, Terrell Suggs and Chris McAlister is the best in the league and expect to see a few results not make double digits when the ravens are playing. There offence is led by Willis McGahee and they should win the division and make the AFC championship game. However Cleveland and Pittsburgh are both great teams and could both push for a wildcard. Moving to the south were the defending champion Colts will look to win there division, however it will be a lot harder as the Jacksonville Jaguars will look to make the playoffs and they could even beat the Colts and win the division. It will be very interesting and we are predicting that the Colts will get the division and the Jags will secure the number one wild card team as they should go 12-4. On to the east where it looks like the Patriots will clean sweep there division and clinch home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Patriots are looking to be the best team in the NFL with the acquisitions of Randy Moss, Wes Welker and Donte Stallworth to the offence and Audalius Thomas to the defence. Some say the Patriots will go undefeated however they have to play the Chargers, the Colts and the Ravens. Now to the west were it looks as though the Chargers will definitely make the playoffs as the have one of the best offences in the NFL. The Chargers who are led by LaDainian Tomlinson, Kris Dielman, Nick Hardwick, Mike Goff, Antonio Gates and Chris Chambers on offence could make it to the Superbowl. There defence which is one of the best against the run has two years ago defensive rookie of the year Shawn Merriman. So the Chargers will win the AFC west and will go deep into the playoffs.

Divisional Winners        Wild Card

By Record                     By record

AFC Final Words

The AFC has much better teams than the NFC and the winner of the AFC championship game should win the Superbowl. There are plenty of championship games throughout the season for example Dallas against New England, Colts up against the Chargers etc. Most of us here at NFL Countdown to the regular season predict the Patriots to win the AFC championship game against the Chargers and then to go on and win the Super Bowl. Tom Brady to win AFC MVP and Shawne Merriman for defensive player of the year. We hope that you’re team can have a good year. Bye for now.

TOP 6 PLAYERS TO WATCH THIS SEASON

1. Ladainian Tomlinson
He was MVP last year and looks as good as ever. Will look to recapture rushing title. Runs behind one of the best lines and will beat defenders one on one.

2. Tom Brady

With Randy Moss, Wes Welker and Donte Stallworth as his recievers he could have a big year. Matt Light and Logan mankins provide protection for him. Could be the MVP this season.

3. Shawn Merriman

Lead league in sacks last year and has only got more experienced. One of the most feared players in the NFL. Will want to put steroids behind him and have a big year.

4. Bob Sanders

Looks to of improve since last year. He he quicker and looks to know what the offence is calling. He can hit you very hard considering his size. In contract year so he will want to play well

5. Brian Urlacher

Was superb last season and led the Bears to the Superbowl. The bears defence is amazing and Urlacher leads the way. Expect urlacher to have a lot of tackles. He is very good in coverage and should break up a lot of passes.

6. Randy Moss
Dissapointing carrer in Oakland. Will look to get back to true form and with Tom Brady on his side he could be the best reciever in the game. If he can get confidence back look for him to be at the top of the league for yards.

Kudos!
