I just got MLB 09 and unlike MLB 08 I am really struggling to steal bases.  I get a good lead, but no matter what I do my player runs like he is stuck in slow motion and I always get thrown out.  Any suggestions?  Is there another way to steal instead of using the left analog stick per the booklet?  My speed bar is almost completely full but it doesn't seem to matter.  Thanks, I really appreciate it.

Once my player got his speed to about 55 i found it not to difficult to steal. so if your bar is almost full then i have no idea what to tell you. What i usually do is wait for the pitchers to get in throwing position. then i tap R1 and then a second or 2 later i lean and just wait for him to start. and wait untill he doesent expect it. I get picked off at 1st a good but. but thats about it, as long as i get a good jump then i have no problem.  but you should try different things when you get a baserunning training session.

sorry  i have the same exact prob with full bars for speed ability and agressiveness, but when i stated this the response seemed to be that it was realism and i was mad that i couldn't steal 90 bases a year. I don't mind being thrown out on a pitchout, bad jump or being picked off, but with 99 on all baserunning skills and speed i should not be thrown out ever on an agressive lead with a good jump but i do because my guy runs like he is towing an achor 1/3 of time

thats crazy, my guy is at 58 speed and i dont steal often but im successful probably 85% of the time. what skill level do you play on? im on veteran, so maybe thats why.  Plus maybe since my guy is not that fast that they dont expect me to steal.

My guy's speed is about a 60, other baserunning skills are about a 50.

I play on all-star and my steals are about 80% successful.

All I can tell you is, against a RHP, watch which foot he picks up.

If he steps off with his back foot, get your butt back to 1st base.

The second he lifts that left leg, take off.
