Saw Hong Kong director Peter Chan Ho-Sun's "The Warlords" starring Jet Li, Andy Lau, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Mainland China's Xu Jinglei at the Golden Harvest Theatre (Plaza Hollywood) in Hong Kong last month when it opened in theatres on December 13th, 2007. For one thing, I knew from the very start that this is going to miles ahead of that other piece of garbage also starring Jet Li. We all know that movie as "War". Peter Chan goes all out and make even Jet Li do something that Jackie Chan has yearned for years and that is to act. (and from the looks of things, Jackie Chan will never get the artistic credit he's always desired.) Yes, that's right. Jet Li gets really emotional and seeing the nature of his character, some deep emotional acting is really required for the role. He cries, gets tormented and gets really ruthless as Pang Qingyun, a general who is the only surviving member of his battalion after the Kui Army (basically, his backup crew) decides to stand by and do absolutely nothing for Pang to help. In other words, Jet Li's character gets ditched and was forced to survive by being a coward through playing dead in a landfill of corpses. Don't worry, folks. It's not much of a spoiler because this is what he explains within the first 5 minutes of the film. Other cast members like Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro are fine in their roles as well. Playstation fans should have heard of Takeshi Kaneshiro through the Onimusha games and Andy Lau is probably best known to fans for the movie "Infernal Affairs".
North American theatrical release date is unknown but rumours are spreading that it will come out in the fall of this year.
However, for those who can't wait, you can always import the Hong Kong DVD release which should be out in the next few months. Judging from what I've seen on the big screen, this has blu-ray potential and should look great in high definition.
Definitely recommended and cannot be missed.

What was wrong with War??? I liked that movie... nothing like Once upon of time in China series... but still a good movie.
Sony - Taking consoles and format wars down one at a time. I hate Lair sooo much, I snapped it into pieces, threw it out, so that one less Lair game is being circulated.  Individuality: always remember that you are unique, just like everyone else.
