Here is what I did to fix it:
Remove original hard drive, replace with new store bought 2.5 SATA 5400 80 GB hard drive, and placed it back into the PS3 console. Powered on the PS3 and it asked me to reformat, went ahead with the reformat, and the PS3 was as good as new!! Some steps that I skipped was removing the hard drive plastic cover on the side of the console, removing one screw and pushing out the hard drive caddy, then pulling out the hard drive with caddy, and then removing four screws that hold the HDD in place and replace with the new hard drive. You can find some great video instructions on youtube .com about how to upgrade your HDD to a larger one. But the focuss on this thread is to fix the hard drive corrupted message.
I did buy a USB 2.5 SATA external HDD enclosure to reformat the original drive, but I think it was kind of a waste if you ask me. Yeah, I placed the orginal faulty HDD in it, and my computer couldn't detect it from crap, but you really don't have to format the new HDD seperately, just place it in the PS3 and it will reformat it for you. Soon I will try to upgrade to a 160GB just for fun. Maybe I will post some images later on if you guys like.
Hard drive is corrupted can be fixed easily!!!!!!!!!!!
Now the next subject is how to fix those PS3 with no power, or no audio/no video problems. If anyone has info on that please state if there is a fix in this thread.

I agree, you didn't really "fix" a corrupted hard drive.

Most of the stuff in this post is pretty much common knowledge on these forums (ie. swapping out the hard drive, if the HDD is corrupted then put in a new one.) What I want to know is, how stupid is your friend seriiously? He obviously isn't very tech savvy. Did you invite him over to play some PS3 after you fixed it? lol

your title is not what you are saying. you are saying that you "fixed a corrupt hard drive" but in reality you just bought and purchased a new one. so you did not fix anything. your title is misleading
