Three pages of bickering and no one thinks to post the official response?

As with any hardware and software that is connected to a network, the PLAYSTATION 3 can also be prone to malicious attacks when connected to a network.  However, we have not received any reports of such attacks to the PLAYSTATION 3.

We do not recommend installing any software that is not authorized by Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) as they may contain viruses and can cause damage to your system.

If you have concerns of malicious attacks, you may wish to verify the firewall capabilities of your network with the network administrator, person who set up your network, or your Internet Service Provider.  We also recommend installing a firewall program between your Internet router and your PLAYSTATION 3, in addition to regularly updating your virus definition files.  Also, we recommend that you always keep your PLAYSTATION 3 updated with the latest system software

If you think your system has been infected with a virus, you can attempt to get rid of it by restoring the PLAYSTATION 3 system.  This is not the same as restoring the default settings of the PLAYSTATION 3.  Restoring the PLAYSTATION 3 system will completely reformat the hard disk drive and delete all data.

If Sony says it is possible, then the answer is:  YES.

THe PS3 may not be able to get a virus, but keep in mine that if you PS3 is on your network you may transfer a virus to a PC on your network. Many viruses are network aware.

actually, can't someone make a sticky thread about this?

actually, the ps3 can get a virus. just as long as you don't transfer suspicious files...and i doubt the ps3 can download anything from the net except from the psn (unless i'm wrong?). thereby, it isn't possible considering that the ps3's os hasn't been hacked yet like windows has or is too simple like MAC.

they are ready have this Question in the support area so no need to make this a Sticky, or any othere thread like this

ppl just have to be smart on how to look for stuff

yeah, but do you really think they'll actually look for it? wouldn't having a sticky would help them find it better than asking the same Q again?

But no, I don't think Sony engineers ever graduated, let alone even own a PS3.

No one's coded a virus to work on the PS3. If they did take the time to do so, why would they target the PS3? Why not just target Windows like everyone else and get more people infected. 100's of millions or 25 million?
