So I just got my console today, not five hours ago. Its 250 GB Slim, nothing is wrong with it whatsoever. It works great, blah blah blah. Got a two year warranty. The problem may entirely be my fault and my relative newbishness to the PlayStation world. I've been using a PC monitor as the main screen for my gaming (so far PC and 360). I hooked it up to my Xbox 360 via an HDMI to DVI adapter. No problems whatsoever. I get my audio from the RCA hookups to my stereo. NOW, I'm trying the same thing with my brand spankin' new PS3 and no dice. No video, at all. The monitor says its receiving input from its digital(DVI) source, but I get a blank black screen. I'm not really looking for a remedy to this (I'm no crybaby, I can deal with it), I'm just looking for an explanation. Why does HDMI to DVI work for the 360 and not the PS3?

Have you tried holding down the power button from stand by untill you hear 2 beeps? it should reset your resolution to your current monitor.

BTW what is your monitors resolution? If I remember correctly? the PS3 had trouble displaying a picture on certain cpu monitors?

I see there is others(googled) with the same problem with you? Most of the problems were due to a bad connection? I'm guessing you have already tried re-seating all of your connections?

yes, or just make sure all connections are all the way in? It seems that the connections your are using (HDMI/DVI) works with the PS3.
