I currently have the following setup with my home theater system: PS3 -> HDMI -> Wii -> Component -> LG 50" Plasma -> Optical -> LG 5.1 DVD/surround system PS2 -> Composite -> I have it connected this way so all my devices go through the surround setup. I also have the TV speakers disabled so that sound always comes through the surround system. With the Wii/PS2 I never have problems but with the PS3 sound will be fine for a few minutes and then will suddenly lose sync by around half a second. This is most notably a problem with Guitar Hero/Rockband games but it's also terrible for games like Batman: AA and Uncharted where the developers spent a lot of time and money on lip synching and by the time I hear the audio I've read what the characters say in the sub-titles. I can temporarily solve the problem for GH games between playing each song by switching the surround system's audio source to DVD and then back to audio but it's rather frustrating to have to do this and even more so on other games. Synching is never a problem for TV or the Wii, only the PS3. The output modes I currently have selected are the Linear PCM modes for surround sound 5.1 and the TV is set to output Linear PCM too. If I select any of the Dolby options, I don't get any sound at all whilst playing games (only the XMB sounds). I have the same problem if I connect the PS3 directly to the surround system via optical. I'm hoping some audiophile can shed some light on the problem and any possible fix TIA. Andy

the problem with putting the audio through the tv like that is the tv can only output 2-channel,, if you want real surrond sound you have to hook the ps3 directly to your reciever with at least an optical cable. that being said if you like it the way it is for convenience and dont mind the sound of the matrixed pro-logic sound, then go into the ps3 audio menu and unselect all the surround formats(dd5.1, dts, etc) leaving only the 2-channel selected,,this should fix your problem as it seems your tv is havind issues decoding the other formats

Hi chingkwee, thanks for the reply. As I stated above, I've tried routing the PS3 directly to the surround system and there's no improvement. The main cause seems to be when there's a period of no sound ie during loading screens. It's almost as if the sound system loses track of the sound or something. At a guess I'd say that in non-digital audio formats, there would be no way of knowing if sound was being streamed or not so that's why it doesn't lose sync on the other consoles or the TV. I realize this is probably an issue with the surround system and not the PS3. EDIT: I've also tried your suggestion of turning off the surround features - no luck!
