Hi all,
I'm new to the PS3 family, so I was wondering if anybody knows a way to get PS3 working with VGA out without having to buy lots of extras - I already own the Multi AV->VGA cable that came with the PlayStation 2 Linux kit, and as I don't currently have a HDTV I'd really love to be able to play games on my computer LCD (it doesn't have HDCP).
Currently, I can only get PAL output to my TV, and with some hacking (and a lot of guesswork) I've managed to get YellowDog Linux to display using the VGA cable, however it will only run at some horrid mode like 576p (mode #42 or something using the YDL config app) centered on my 1280x1024 LCD. While this proves the PS3 is capable of using the VGA cable as output, there is no way I can find of getting anything else to work.
Sony, if you're listening, please enable VGA (DB15HD) output for XMB and games!!

I have tried to use an HDMI to DVI to 15 pin monitor connection and everything in-between. The only thing that has EVEN given me a picture is using the component cable out to BNC and telling my monitor to sync on green. This gives me a sharp picture in full 1080p but everything is green. If I turn the sync on green off I lose the picture. I would love to get my hands on one of these cables that came with the Linux kit. COME ON SONY AT LEAST LET US USE PC MONITORS FOR THE GAMES. I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE MOVIES. My monitor is a View Sonic G225F. It is hands down the best monitor I have ever had!!! Max Rez 2048x1536 at 75 hertz Razor sharp. I play most of my games at 1600x1200 at 100 hertz. (1600x1200 is the max most of my pc games will support.)
