I was told to put this here.

SOURCE:
THE 1UP SHOW

14:30-15:50

Shane (EGM editor)
Mark (1UP Editor)
Ryan (1UP Editor)
(Conversation about MGS4 and Rumble)
Shane:
The rumble is crazy. So explosions were happening further in the environment and i could tell where they were based on what part of the controller is rumbling.  And it isnt like the dualshock where you feel weights spinning  Its different it feels new
Ryan:  Its new tech, its totally next gen rumble
Shane:  You know, its better new rumble, i think its slightly better than BLAH BLAH rumble but its not like a life changing experience
Mark:  What is better rumble, how do you make better...... rumbles?
Shane and Ryan:  We just said!
Shane:  Its directional, and it doesn't feel like weights spinning in a controller
Ryan: It feels like its just vibrations.
Mark:  Does the BLAH BLAH controller feel like there's weights spinning in a controller dude?
Shane:  Not as much as DUALSHOCK 2
Ryan:  But it also doesn't feel directional on that controller, like think about rumble and stereo
Shane: And also the levels of rumble between very suttle to very strong seem liked a broader range
Transits into MGS4 footage(END of conversation about rumble and MGS4)

If it was the dualshock it would have the weights... it's obviously a sixaxis. And no, it isn't illegal to take a part a console, or anything related to it. And besides, you're supposed to be able to take a part the sixaxis just in case the rechargable battey dies.

Sixaxis + Rumble = Awesome! Well it’s good to know that just about every PS2 title supported the rumble feature in some way, and even though it's coming late to the PS3, I can’t wait for the plenty of games that are going to be prepared to utilize the oft-requested force feedback.

I'm reply to the message above me about AC not supporting the Dualshock 3.  Well to answer your claim it does infact support it, such as when you are hit by an enemy or fall off a building.  But, as far as feeling it while free running it is absent.  http://kotaku.com/gaming/notag/the-list-of-ps3-games-that-support
