http://www.8bitjoystick.com/archives/jake_inside_source_reveal_th
e_truth_about_xbox_360_red_ring_of_death_failures.php

And this is the first ive ever heard of this so called code of death.

And its all from 2 post noobs so im to sure if i can believe it even happened or if we got more xbox trolls.

But atleast SONY lets us say what ever we want here the Xbox forums are highly regulated.

They scan EVERY post before they let it be posted.

Kinda reminds my of some propaganda run communist BS.

Gota love freedom of speech. :smileytongue:

Noobs huh? pft. Whatever... I'm glad you haven't heard of the problem. To me that means maybe it's not a huge problem with the system, and maybe my replacemenet won't have the same problem. But if you'll look elsewhere online you'll find that this is obviously alot bigger problem than what you're saying here. I love my PS3 and I'm aware that it is less troublesome than an Xbox 360, which I wouldn't have. I would rather have a faulty PS3 than an XBox. But there is a problem with it that is bigger than those that are payed by Sony to get on here and bash people with problems are letting on. I called Sony and they would only  reluctantly say that yes, this has been a problem. Yet they would not explain exactly what the problem was. I honestly would like to know exactly what it is that caused it to malfunction this way so at least I know what I'm getting into. That's my only purpose for my comments, hoping that someone with common since will read it and say 'yes, I've had the same problem and this is what was wrong.' I am of the opinion it is a problem with the latest firmware update. My system worked beautifully until that latest update. One week later, my blu ray drive is shot. However I am not  well schooled in all the technical issues with gaming consoles. I don't expect a miracle machine that never has problems. What I do expect is a company that will be honest with me after I spend over $500.00 for a system and several thousand dollars in software over the years. Is that too much to ask? I don't have to be aware of all the problems an XBox has to appreciate the quality of my PS3. I didn't spend $500.00 on an XBox. I spent $500.00 on a PS3. That's the machine I want and I would like answers when there's an obvious widespread problem with the system.

If you have those answers please share them with me instead of telling me how lucky I am to have a PS3 over and XBox 360.

Kudos!

I'm not sure what you're getting at, if you're insulting me or what. Either way, in response, I'm not an XBox fanboy, or what ever you called me. Had a Playstation from day one, then a PS2, now a PS3. If I can't ask questions on here as to what's wrong with my machine, where CAN I ask questions? Everyone up here is so damn defensive, makes me wonder rather or not everyone that responds to my posts is working FOR Sony or something. But I'm not going to be discouraged from finding out the truth about what happened to my PS3. I just wanna know. Was it the firmware update? Did I get a bad system due to mass production over the holiday season like Best Buy suggests? I love my PS3, that's why it's going to really suck when I have to send it off for my new one. But Sony should at least fess up about WHY this is a problem with so many people. I'm NOT a Sony hater. I'm behind them and PS3 100% I just wanna know...

I originally thought it was the firmware update as well. Did some research at the time and I guess it was happening before the update. Its the blue-ray diode. It burns out in that model of the system. Sony will replace it with the same model, not one of the newer PS3's, So I'm not sure that it is garunteed for the problem not to occur again. I'm not sure why this post was emailed to me as a response to mine but i'm going to ignore that fact. After a few days of looking into it, this was all of the information I could find. However, I did find similarities in the situations in which the problems occured. A couple other people experienced the same problem as I did....Playing COD4 and having different sounds cut out until it finally went silent. Also playing Rock Band for the first time seemed to be another. And I think with Ratchet and Clank there were many of the same occurences in which this error code appeared. One person Stated that They could not play BlueRay Disks but could play DVD's. My PS3 could do neither but was fully functional otherwise, Leading me to believe what others had stated and that BlueRay is still a new technology and the diodes Sony had used for reading the disks were not up to the par at the time and could burn out.  Hope this helps, even though you did tell me to screw myself. I do not work for Sony, I wish I did.

Thanks for that reply. I honestly just wanted to know. So does that mean I'll get the same system I send in? I mean, I have an 80gig and I expect an 80gig back. But have they improved the diodes that you speak of since the problem? Were the diodes better in other models? If so, how? I thought they were the same laser system in them all. At least I'm getting a few answers now where as before people were coming on here bashing me, saying I was an XBox guy trying to stir up trouble, hence the negative comments earlier. I've heard so many people say they've had no problems whatsoever with their PS3 and that's what I pray for. I love the system, just want a little support form anyone who knows what's going on, as I am admittedly ignorant to many tecnicalities regarding the machine.

If you haven't already, I invite you all with problems to log into the thread : Have you sent in your PS3 for repairs where you can describe your problems and let everyone know how your repairs are going.  You can read how others have made out.  The 80 gig version like I had seems to be the one that is staying on backorder, unfortunately.  Just read the first post to see how we want to maintain the thread and eliminate all arguing with the inevitable antagonists that jumped on you guys.  Never, never answer them.  Simple but effective way of keeping the thread alive and not getting it locked by administrators.

thanks

Just curious, but what model of the system would that be?  40GB?  60GB? 80?

According to these guys, the error is related to a bad firmware install.

"The error code is actually one of two things, a) a faulty sector on the internal hard drive, or b) a faulty installation of software/firmware, both iterations actually coincide with each other. If the hard drive suffers a faulty sector ( a section of damaged space on the drive that data may have been written to that no longer is readable), an installation may still be processed, and even work, but the error can cause some serious side effects, such as option b. If your PS3 has installed an item incorrectly, including firmware, it is in high risk of receiving this error.

Basically, what is occuring is the corruption of game disc recognition and execution. If you will notice, in 90% of all cases, the drive will still play DVD and even Blu Ray movies with no problems. When trying to start a game however, the title, sooner or later, will receive the error."
