Thanks Jenkins, good advice. Do you know a reputable place for us to buy repair parts for PS3?

try this site. they sell either the lens by itself or the lens and the deck and they have a much better warranty on them then most do that offer them on ebay. just make sure you are getting the right one. you either have the single laser lens or the dual laser lens. you need to replace it with the same one. and if you want to go an easier route. you can buy the whole drive. it is easier to replace the whole drive because when you just do the laser sometimes it is a pain to realign the mechanism that accepts and ejects the disc, and the only thing you need to do when you replace the whole drive is switch the little controller board or motherboard from your old broken drive to the new one. now buying the whole drive usually costs about $100 so by doing just the lens you would save money but only if it is worth the frustration you might get in just doing the lens. http://www.thegamersfix.com/?gclid=CPm4vPnJs50CFVRM5QodZWybjQ

wow thats a hunk of change that i don't really have at the moment. I'll just have to wait before I can do that. What I find weird is that the system continues to spin the disk as long as its in there and still has the disk loading animation. What I have heard is that most people will have the disk stop spinning after around 30 seconds or so and the disk loading animation will also just change to the clock as well. Its just a good thing that for my brother he only has 3 disk games the rest are downloadable games so for now its fine for him to just play burnout and fat princess and bf1943 and ps1 classics. Anyone know why mine just keeps spinning and loading till i turn it off (I wanted to see how long it would do this so I just put a game in and watched a half hour tv show when I went back to the playstation the disk was still trying to load and i went and listened to the ps3 and the disk was still spinning...

well it could be that the lens is so dirty that using a lens cleaning disc won't clean it enough. so you might try to open the bluray drive up and clean the lens with some alcohol. also, it could be that the lens is weak and not completely broken so in a way it can tell the disc is there but is not powerful enough to actually read it. also, one thing you might want to check is the mechanism that moves the laser lens back and forth. check to see if it is lubricated because sometimes that not being lubed right can cause the lens not to be where it is supposed to be in order to read the disc properly and it gets stuck. this is actually a common thing that happens to the BOX where if you lube the gear that moves the lens, it fixes the problem. usually with it though you can tell fairly easily because when you put a disc in you can hear a grinding noise from inside the console. but hey, it's worth looking into and won't cost anything if it is the problem except for some time and some oil.
