or these threads will stop when people realize that asking to bring back ps2 b/c is the same as asking sega to make video game consoles again. it's not going to happen, and the respective companies have said that it is not going to happen. it is neither logical nor practical for sony to act soley on consumer requests. i hope it doesn't come back either as sony has to many other ps3 related projects to work on. plus re-releasing ps2 games on the psn will negate any need for b/c.

The PS3 never had "software-only" PS2 emulation, the 80GB BC PS3 emulated the PS2's CPU in software but had to keep the GPU chip on the PS3. Sony had to take this approach because the GPU was too difficult to emulate through software. So when the PS2's GPU was taken out of the PS3, it completely lost the ability to run PS2 software.
