I had backup just the saves...  Iam not in EUA (iam in Brazil) there is only few services here and it seams there is no fix. GPU is broken. I already buy a Slim, but Sony remove PS2 compatibility and the memorycard reader. And... just 2 USBs... Damm...

Ok, hope this helps.

I moved from an 80GB fat to a slim. Only music, photos, and non-protected game saves will restore to your new system. Even if you put your account info and activated the new system.

As for B/C, well, better hunt down a B/C PS3, or buy a PS2.

I make backup just for the save files. Its very strange we cant recover content from the old HD without start the original PS3, especially the videos, fotos, screensshots, musics, etc. System should protect just the game data (or make some authentication pass) and make possible recover another type of contents. So, we need to have 2 HDs to few safe now... 1 to run on PS3 and another to put backup data. That is toomutch...  The system should warning the user that system has some problem before it broken completely. Sony should make some kind of online save game system. Or option to save automatically in another media same time it save on HD. So, there is so many things Sony should do they doesn't... We pay the price...

I miss the PSone and PS2 days. Where, should your system break, as long as you have your memory card, your good to go to buy a new system.

Ho yeah. Having a HD its good because the space that memory cards doesn't have. But there is no point we cant recover HD data without have the original PS3 working. Its like have a PS1 and his memory card doesn't work in another PS1, just in that one that save file was originally created... Its ridiculous. You loose the system, you loose the data... why??? Protection??? There is a lot of type of protections systems that you doesn't need to restrict the copy of all data in the HD.
