Not quite. Blu-Ray movies are encoded as 1080p. They can output as 1080p, 1080i, or 480p. Enable 1080i output on the PS3, and the movies will output at 1080i instead of 480p.

Wrong. Blu-ray displays in 480p, 1080i, and 1080p. Set your PS3 to 1080i so you can get the best image possible on your TV. Blu-ray doesn't support 720p and that is why it goes to 480p.

I have an Xbox360 with HD DVD add on and the side by side comparison with the same movie "MIssion Impossible 3" Is no contest. The HD DVD is cleaner and sharper it totally blows away the PS3 blu ray version. The PS3 blu ray version of MI 3 is very grainy. I hope there is firmware fix for this issue. Othewise I'm going to continue buying HD dvd movies and NOT BLU RAY!!!
