I'll keep it simple. I have a phillips 1080i HDTV. The PS3, however, still wont play ANY dvds on the conversion. But, it does play the games.  Could it be because my HDMI cord is not the PS3 HDMI cord? If not, what do I need to do?

Welcome to the Forums,

Remember that US PS3 games will only play US Blueray movies.  Now what you can try is going to "Settings">"Display Settings"> choose "HDMI"> then chosse "Custom" and make sure that 720p and 1080i are check and try again.  If that still fails I would give Sony a call (1-800-345-7669)

allow me to answer my own question. Stopped up at Best Buy turns out you need a 1.3 or bigger HDMI cord for blu ray to work. So, if anyone else is having the same problem you might wanna update yur HDMI cord. Thanks tho!

The rocket scientist at BB strike again. You do NOT need 1.3 or bigger HDMI cord for bluray to work. 1.1 and 1.2 BOTH are capable of full 1080p signals. 1.3 adds more bandwidth video and audio. But it is NOT needed to play BD movies at 1080p. Im sure they enjoyed the heck out of selling you a 100 dollar cable that you didnt even need.

You may need to turn off the 1080p 24Hz setting.

[Settings] > [BD / DVD Settings] > BD 1080p 24Hz Output (HDMI)

You CAN upscale with component cables.  To use this feature, a TV that is compatible with HD input and output must be connected using an HDMI or component AV cable. Also, the video output setting of the PS3™ system must be set to 1080p, 1080i, or 720p.

Dubkilla,
What do you mean it won't play any DVDs on the conversion?  Are you talking about files you have ripped from the DVD then converted or do you mean to say upscale rather than on the conversion?  What exactly does it do when you try to play a DVD?  Do it play but doesn't upscale or does it not play?  If it does not play describe what it does.
Kudos!
