With this just being released for the PS3, I bet some sort of open source software will come out for our needs.
Owner of a 8800GTX and a 160gig PS3. Yes, I'm a gamer.
Games I'm buying within the next year- -PC- Gears of War, Crysis, Quake Wars, Bioshock, Half Life Orange Box, Team Fortress 2. -PS3- Unreal Tournament 3, MGS4, Gran Turismo 5, Haze, Killzone 2, DiRT, and Army of Two.

First off, I'm using Mac, and the first program I tried was EyeConnect. Although PS3 is in the infancy of the DLNA era, it was a huge let down (first impression). Initially, it worked off the bat. I could foresee it not playing unsupported video format, but instead of saying "Data is not supported", it will give a connection error to the media server. The Photo slideshow started to work, but after the 3rd or 4th image i will get a different error message, something along the lines of "Access Denied". So, I seeked other alternatives. Keep in mind I'm on a Gigabit network. I tried TwonkyVision. This was actually a step up as far as interfaces and options go, it was controlled all within the browser. Before I set up folders, I went ahead and accessed photos started a slideshow and it played seamlessly. What I did not like about TwonkyVision was that it did not set up my folders properly. IN other words, I would specify Video folders with designated names, but they would not show up. I would change the Menu Tree Type, and still nothing. It would default to "User" and everything else. Although I'm convinced the market is trying to put us in the Media center darkages by all these lame work arounds and not just giving us something like XBMC that's been working for the past 3-4 years, I'm still optimistic. I think this is a stepping stone that PS3 has been lacking (vs. the 360), that it finally is starting to talk to networks. I would still trade SMB over DLNA any day.
