it figures, i'm always the guy who has problems. ok i followed everything to a T got the boot screen for linux, i'm at the kboot and i hit install and i get an error message: "/dev/sr0/ppc/ppc64/vmlinux-ps3: not found" so what the hell does that mean? any help would be appreciated...

I'm pretty much stuck with you, it gives me a screen full of errors like that, some saying "Input/Output error" others saying "attempt to access beyond end of device.  Anyone can help with these totally fantastic problems? (This is all before we even run the installer.  It happens when I hit Install or Installtext (I'm running on a SD TV so Installtext is what I have to use but regardless it flags on both)

and sd card big enough to hold all your saved games and whatever else your backing up.... U could also use memory stick dou.... or that other card format..... I was shopping today and seen that the average card that is between 1 and 2 gs..... some are 8...not in sd thou....so they would all be good enough for saved games.... Demos on the other hand , I dont think u can back em up.... but if u can.......wicked

I've had the "/dev/sr0/ppc/ppc64/vmlinux-ps3: not found" error. I think it means that there is no Linux image on the disc. When you burnt the disc all your burner did was copy the file. ISO's are different than files, because they have to burnt as images. My CD burning program doesn't know how to do that, so i downloaded the trial of Nero 7 ( http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/nero7-demo.php if the link doesn't work ). Nero should work at for burning the ISO as an Image. Just make sure you select the slowest write speed for the best quality burn.

As for the Input/Output error. I'm trying to solve that now. I believe the problem is that I downloaded the ISO just by clicking on it. (It ended up being only several KB instead of 3.3 GB, so for that error here's how to fix it). When you download the ISO make sure you right click on the link and click save as(always do this when downloading ISO's), you should now be saving a 3.3 GB file, which could take several hours to download. Because I haven't finished downloading yet I can't say, but in theory burning it should now work because you have the proper file. Good luck :robotvery-happy:

I scanned this thread and didn't see these questions -- so I'm sorry if they're repeated:

1. I downloaded the ISO file overnight and when I woke up it was completed -- but only 1.4GB?

2. How do you backup your saved game data so that when you reformat it isn't lost?

Thanks.

Im having a problem where when it gives me the options to choose install or installtext or rescue or rescuetext. My problem is that when I choose installtext it does nothing. when I say nothing I mean it just makes a new line that looks exactly the same. it looks like this.
kboot : (symbol thingy) ...
