Hi all, I'm finally able to access my D-Link DNS-323 from the PS3 w/ firmware 1.80. I had to install and use TwonkyMedia version 4.3 on my DNS-323 instead of using the built-in UPnP AV server. TwonkyMedia isn't free, but it includes a 30-day trial. According to their website, it currently costs $39.95 for a TwonkyMedia license (version 4.3). Enable telnet ------------------ To install TwonkyMedia, you must first enable a telnet server on the DNS-323. Some might consider this hacking, and it does require some basic knowledge of Linux, so if you're not comfortable with Linux or don't want to modify your DNS-323's startup process and config, I would not recommend proceeding. (This is not a permanent change and can be easily backed out.) The only problem with the above instructions is that the .sh files within the start folder aren't executable. When you restart the DNS-323, it won't start the telnet server. I added the following three lines in the fun_plug script to make the telnet server executable. Just add these lines prior to the "if [ -d "${FUNPLUGDIR}/start" ]; then" line. cd ./fun_plug.d/start chmod 755 telnetd.sh cd ./ Save fun_plug and restart the DNS-323. (You can go back later after restarting the DNS-323 and remove the above three lines since they won't be necessary any more.) After restarting the DNS-323, it will now start the telnet server. Note: the fun_plug script will attempt to start more than just the telnet server. If you don't want the other servers starting, you can either modify the fun_plug script or rename/remove them from the start folder. (Actually, since I didn't make mine executable (just telnetd.sh), they won't start anyway.) Install TwonkyMedia 4.3 --------------------------------- You just need to run the NASSetup.exe program on your PC, then follow the instructions. The TwonkyMedia server will be installed at /mnt/HD_a2/twonky. The TwonkyMedia autostart script will be installed at /mnt/HD_a2/starttwonky.sh. The TwonkyMedia web interface will be accessible at http://<fill in your DNS-323's ip address>:9000/configpage/index.html I don't think it will actually conflict, but I went ahead and disabled my DNS-323's built-in UPnP AV server from within the D-Link web UI. The PS3 will now detect AND connect to your DNS-323. The DNS-323 will show up as "Twonky DNS-232" (This name can be changed through the TwonkyMedia web interface.) It works great! I plan to purchase the full license soon. Hope this info helps!

After performing these steps, the DNS-323's web-based configuration UI is unaltered. You can still use it to modify your DNS-323's built-in settings, enable/disable ftp server, iTunes server, etc.. These steps only enable telnet and add the new Twonky DLNA server. Your existing data will be unaffected. Basically, the first step (enabling telnet) adds the fun_plug script which the DNS-323 automatically looks for and runs on startup if it exists. It enables some logging and starts the telnet server (and any other executable in the start directory). The Twonky installation will add the Twonky media server app and modify fun_plug to start the media server. (To undo any of this, you simply need to stop the Twonky server, remove the new files and folders, then restart the DNS-323.) You'll use the Twonky's web-based configuration UI to modify it and start/stop it. Of course, if you ever use the DNS-323's utility to reformat your harddrive(s), you'll have to perform these steps again. Have fun!

also, do you have your dns-323 set to auto power down drives after a set amount of time? i do, i want to know tho, after all this if it will power down after some time passes. Because im **bleep** about things and like it to powerdown when its not used.

Hi. You only need telnet so that the Twonky installation program can connect to the DNS-323 and install the necessary files to your harddrive. You should then be able to disable telnet after you've successfully installed the Twonky media server. (You can disable telnet by removing all of the original files you copied over except fun_plug. fun_plug is still needed to start the Twonky media server. Just delete all the other lines in that file except for the last one related to Twonky. After you've done all of that, simply retart your DNS-323). Regarding your second question, yes, I have mine power down the drives after the default amount of time.
