I just got off the phone with Sony. Obviously my ps3 no longer reads any of my discs. This seems like a widespread problem. The supervisor acknowledged that there was an issue with the latest firmware. They are going to fix my ps3 for FREE even though my 60 gig is out of warranty. I was lucky enough to find my receipt and I talked to Sony's customer service rep and they will fix my PS3. Now I'm just waiting for the shipping box. It seems Sony is acknowledging us now for the 2.42 firmware error it caused. Good luck to the rest of you fellow PS3 gamers. At least this wasn't as bad as the Red Ring of death!

For those that are asking about whether or not they should update back to 2.42 when their system comes back with a firmware rollback, as far as I can tell, the replaced parts work with 2.42. Mine came back with that firmware and everything has been working. I have noticed that sometimes while playing Metal Gear Solid 4 that a Codec call will take half a second longer to start, but that only happens once in awhile. I think that part is being caused because I'm pushing the PS3 instead of just letting it fully play things out (I'm skipping videos unless it was one I thought was fun to watch) Other then that, it has been working fine, I've had it for maybe 2 or 3 weeks now and I've played it for up to maybe 4 hours in one session before turning it off until next time I'm up for console gaming. Also, any papers that you got from Sony inside the box when they shipped your replaced//fixed unit, keep them on hand just in case it does act up with 2.42 (it shouldn't act up, but you never know) so that when you call them again saying that it stopped working, you have the documents stating that you had an issue like it before, this is what was done to it by repair team, yet you had the same probably happen again later down the road.

I hope they come up with an update because I can't play any of my PS3 games, however it seems I can still play blue-ray movies and PS2 games so I'm getting acquainted with GTA Vice City for believe it or not, the first time!

Before you agree to pay the $150, be really nice and tell them its the updates fault so you want them to fix it for free. When they say no, ask for a manager. Then tell the manager the same thing, you might be able to get them to fix it for free.
