I've just attempted to upgrade my system to firmware 2.5 and my screen turns black when I turn on the system...no logos...no sound...no nothing. I know we have a thread for general issues, but I wanted to point out this specific problem and see what the scope of the problem is and if there is any recoverable method available to resolve. BTW, I've tried the 2.5 hidden recovery menu option with no success, so I suspect my system is in an inoperable state. Thanks in advance, A customer trying to love next gen consoles Message Edited by sith1969 on 10-18-2008 08:42 AM Message Edited by sith1969 on 10-18-2008 04:27 PM

I Have the same problem. Once the update is finished installing, the screen goes blank. This is with A/V (RCA) and HDMI. I restart the PS3 and it goes through the installation process from the beginning again. Once the update finishes installing it jusr goes back to a black screen. **bleep**? I've never had a single problem up until now.

Hm... try hard-starting and hard-power down. To turn on: Lightly press the power sensor until you hear a beep - it resets the system. To turn-off - same thing, until you hear the beep. But if that does not work. Maybe call Sony. Little hidden feature with firmware 2.50: ( I copied from another forum) "It appears that firmware 2.50 also added one other feature, meant to help PS3 owners that are trying to troubleshoot their system. A recovery menu gives users access to a variety of restore features. It will even allow users to install a new firmware update, should anything go wrong during the installation process. To access the menu, you must hold down the power button to turn on the PS3 until you hear three beeps. Then the menu will show up."
"There are a few reports of systems bricking after firmware updates, so this may be Sony's attempt at creating a fix for future problems. Hopefully, we'll never have to actually use this feature -- but if we do, it may be a quick way of avoiding a trip to the post office to send the PS3 to Sony's support center." http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/10/18/firmware-2-50-adds-hidden-rec

Gang, The VERY FIRST thing I did when the system was DOA was to come here...today was my first posts on these boards. I figured the forums would be the first place to go for solutions. The first thing I've tried is the various recovery options including the "hidden" recovery menu option in 2.5 that has been gloriously posted in other threads. I've tried to bring it up by: 1. Turned on the system (pressing power once)...wait a sec....hold down until I hear 3 beeps. Nothing 2. Turned on the system by holding it down...I get three beeps within ~2 seconds of each other...system shuts down. 3. I've used the power button in the back and then power up...nothing. If I'm doing something stupid please let me know, but I TRULY mean BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH. Nothing. Nata.. Zippo... Bankrupt... Dead...
