it's not the console itself. It has to do with the router. What kind of router is it?

I've had similar issues with the same brand of router. I believe the possible fix for this was to turn off the SSID broadcast, which means you have to manually type in the SSID when configuring the network information. I also turned UnPP on the router as well, and set it too on the PS3. Under Router Settings? I think there were two options, one for extended range (XR) and one for 108 Mbps enabled. Disable the 108 Mbps option. I think I've read that it causes excessive heat build up with heavy usage and the router is incapable of cooling itself well enough to handle it, thus it tends to freeze, drop connections, and requires it to be hard booted. Hope this helps you.

I read the thread about disabling the SSID broadcast. UnPP (Universal Plug 'N Play) shouldn't change anything either. It's for devices to auto-connect through a firewall (kinda the way I understand it). But I haven't had trouble connecting to my router, just sometimes my connection drops. The thing with XR and 108 Mbps I don't have. My router supports up to 54 Mbps and that's where it's at. Thanks for the ideas though. Godstar wrote:

PSPDawg: I have the exact same wireless router you have, connected thru to my cable moden, but I can't even obtain an IP address. When I set-up the router, I had to add the MAC addressed of the wireless card to my laptop and the PSP's address, then viola, it worked like a charm. I even set-up WEP Encryption. Now ever time I try to do "Internet Connection Settings" on the PS3 (after SCAN --> easy --> automatic everything) it cannot obtain the IP address and the "connection error 8010..." message appears. I've read all about disabling the SSID broadcast, disabling the WEP encryption, but to no avail can I obtain an IP. I've even entered the MAC address of the PS3 to the router's access list but still nothing. Its odd, my wireless router shows up 100% but I can't seem to get past it. How did you set-up yours? I've updated the firmware on the router from the Netgear site, plus updated the PS3 system to FW 1.32. Anyhelp is surely appreciated!

Well its weird. I've tried wirelessly (Scan-->"Selected Router"-->Security Settings: None-->Easy) then the error message. I've trie the same but after security settings (None-->Manually-->Automatic-->UPnP (tried Enabled/Disabled) and still an error msg. Hell, I even tried it wired (but from the router to the PS3) under the "Wired" option & "Wireless" option; still nothing. Some people tried port forwarding, using DMZ, and the whole shutting everything down cold method but it seems to vary pending on the situation. I can't really see why I'd have to do any of the "remedies" above if my laptop and PSP work fine?! It seems like the port forwarding w/ DMZ set-up seems to work, but I'd like to save it as a last reserve.

As you can see from my fast posting I'm dossing at work! I updated via the PSP's memory stick (just downloaded the System Update, stuck it on the Mem. Duo, slotted it in the PS3). I haven't tried shutting the modem and router down yet, but I did have to do that when installing the router prior to being a PS3 owner. I'll try it out...but if that stil doesn't work, I'll be back! I'm not going to even try to connect the PSP to the PS3... I like hacking my PSP!
