I got my PS3 yesterday and for the life of me I cannot get it to connect. I am using a five port switch that two PC's are using. I have seperate IP's for the two PC's and with this same switch I had my PS2 online without difficulty.

I've tried rebooting my calbe modem, but to no avail. I'm not sure what else to try. Although it always seems as if its the smallest detail I overlook.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

is the ps3 using the wire or wireless?

if wired. i'd manually put in the IP Address for the system. make sure to have it higher than the pc's so you won't have any conflict.

The PS3 is wired.

I've tried inputing the IP manually as I have read here on the forums, even that didn't help.

I'll try upping the last digit of the IP and see if that helps.

I also read something about updating the system with a thumbdrive, I'm going to look into that as well.

Thank god for these forums. I was starting to get really pissed. $600 for this thing and you gotta do the leg work to get it online. lol

I don't use a router. I just have a five port switch, and its a D-Link.

I just finished updating the software, I'm going to try it again.

That didn't help any.

My next guess would be that because I don't use a router I use a switch, that the IP is conflicting somehow? But, I don't see how that could be as I had my PS2 online without any trouble on the same setup.

DSS-5+

Also, after reading about how to get all of my IP address, DNS info, all that. I input that and obtained the IP address, but there was a problem resolving the host name it said.
The error is, "an error occured while resolving the name with the server." (80710102)
Am I on the right track?

Also, thank you much for your help.
