The errors (80710102, 80710103, and 80028EA5) are DNS errors. Personally, I have had the first two, and the solution here has worked for both of them. I hope that this will help get some of you back up and running on the PSN. The solution may lie in the threads that NexVision and nlong2 have been posting around here (sorry if someone else was the originator).
I believe you must change your current DNS address(es). There are many services out there that offer free DNS routing --- OpenDNS is one. Their information is below. Change your DNS settings to the OpenDNS servers: - 208.67.222.222
- 208.67.220.220
The above DNS servers are offered free from https://www.opendns.com/start/. (Interet Explorer may be best for viewing the site.)
Okay, you have two options here to change your DNS address(es). You can change them in your router, or you can change them on each individual device (PS3). I should note that changing them on the PS3 did not fix 80710102 for me, though it did for others. However, changing them on the PS3 did solve error 80710103 for me. Changing them on the router fixed both errors for me. (Special thanks to TheWorld360 for pointing out the ability to change them on your PS3.) Method 1 (easier): PS3 - From your PS3's XMB, navigate to Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Settings
- Choose "Custom"
- Then choose your connection type (wired or wireless). Continue through the setup (usually just selecting the default settings) until you get to "DNS Setting".
- At "DNS Setting", choose "Manual". Here, you will enter the OpenDNS server addresses.
- In "Primary DNS", enter 208.67.222.222
- In "Secondary DNS", enter 208.67.220.220
- Continue to the end of the setup (again, likely using the default, already selected values).
- Test the connection when you get to the end, and pray for the best!
Method 2 (a bit more involved, but still not difficult): Router For detailed steps on how to do this with your specific router model click this link to go to OpenDNS's setup page: LINK Basic Walkthrough: - Leave your PS3's Internet Connection Settings alone (usually set to automatic).
- Locate the IP address of your router. For example’s sake, mine is a D-Link DI-604 with IP 192.168.0.1
- Open a web browser (Firefox or Internet Explorer for example) on a computer connected to your router (The PS3’s browser should also work, but I didn’t try that.)
- In the address bar, type in the IP address of you router.
- If it asks for a username and password, enter whatever you set it as. If you never set one, check the manual with your router and it will probably give the default username and password. If you can’t find one, try username "admin" (no quotes) with no password. If that fails, try "admin" for both the username and the password.
- Once you get in, look for the place to enter "DNS Primary and Secondary." (In mine, it was under “WAN.”) Once you find it, enter the values above for DNS (208.67.222.222 primary and 208.67.220.220 secondary). Make sure to save and apply the changes.
- Check the connection on your PS3, and hope that it is working!
Best of luck, and thanks again to NexVision and nlong2 for the information. Jared EDIT - If the above DNS values do not work, others are reporting that 4.2.2.1 (primary) and 4.2.2.5 (secondary) work as well as they are the DNS values for the North American servers. Thanks to Lord Of The Ping for this information.Message Edited by Lionel_Hutz on 05-14-2009 09:44 PM

That's alright - I'm signed off for the time being anyway.
On the topic, I think that Sony really needs to acknowledge this right away. Even if it isn't their fault, there is no way that this many people are going to find workarounds.

This is what exactly happened to me also... I talked to sony about it for hours... went through hours of trouble-shooting and nobody could figure out why this was happening.... Thanks to everyone.. i used those numbers for the primary and secondary and now seems to work...(although a little slower but idk if it has to do with internet just being a little slow, but my avatars aren't showing up) Anyways I will definitely be calling SOny tomorrow to tell them about this and this forum.... I highly recommend that anyone with this problem also calls sony and tells them about it..... Hopefully they will release another update so it can fix the problem to people who still dont have a clue as to whats going on... Im really disappointed in Sony.....

Instead of changing all your router settings, I just changed the DNS adresses on the console settings and it finally connected after two days. This would be worth a shot, before you go tearing thru your router settings. I connect with, either via DLink wbr1310 or Siemens Wireless Modem Router Combo Thanks for the Help Signing out to Go nuts on Madden

Really? That's great that you got it by just changing them on the PS3. I tried that as well, and it didn't work so I just assumed that it wouldn't work for other people. Well, that's one case where I'm glad to hear that I was wrong.

I've had that avatar slow loading thing twice. I think it's caused by a slow PSN - I was logged about an hour after the avatar thing happened and then the system froze (this was before this DNS thing). I would be careful because my PS3 froze both times.
