To stream your music, movies, pictures from your computer to your PS3: Your PS3 and computer need to be connected to the same router and you need to do the following steps. Turn of Windows Firewall or any other third party firewall you might have on as this may interupt the streaming connection.

Download the following file:

http://files.filefront.com/Windows+Media+Connect+20+English/;5479
102;/fileinfo.html

Install that.

Now go to Start>Settings>Control Panel.

Open Windows Media Connect.

Click "Devices" and an "Unknown Device" should pop up in Windows Media Connect.

Double click it and allow it to share.

Now click the "Sharing" tab and put all the folders you want your PS3 to be able to stream of.

Now go to your PS3 and Windows Media Server should pop-up if it doesn't search for media servers.

Make sure your media sharing is on under Network Settings.

***Note: You can only view music files under the Music XMB, you can only watch movies, clips under the Video XMB, and you can only view pictures under the Pictures XMB.

If your files aren't read by the PS3 download the program called: Xilisoft Video Converter.

http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Multimedia_and_Graphics/Video_
and_Animation_Tools/Xilisoft_Video_Converter_Download.html

Download link is at the bottom of the page.

The PS3 reads the following file formats:

Media Class   Required Format Set    Optional Format Set

Image                 JPEG                          PNG, GIF, TIFF

Audio                  LPCM                         AAC, AC-3, ATRAC 3plus, MP3, WMA9

AV                       MPEG2                      MPEG, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4*, AVC, WMV9

***Another note: If all your music isn't read by the PS3 and is in MP3 format and its in the Windows Media Player library it is probably copy righted. And Sony won't allow any copy righted music to be played on the PS3 so what you need to do is is download WinAmp. And then in the library add your music. Now your music will be hosted by WinAmp and won't be copy righted by Windows Media Player.

I hope this helps all the people that have been having problems setting this up. I love electronics.

the ps3 can also play mpeg-2, mpeg and lcm(an audio format). i know these work because they are on my laptop any they play on my ps3, at first the LCM format didnt want to work then i tried it again in about 10minutes and it worked.  AVI and RM files don't work though, i hope there are new updates for the PS3 so that it can play these files without me having to convert it..

What if I have never used WMP? I have used only iTunes (Windows XP) for importing and listening to music. Could that be a problem?

it says Acces to the media server is not allowed. It is possible that the system name for this ps3 system has not been registered.
