Hey guys, I don't have the 3K, you I can't check for scanlines, but if you don't know what scanlines and interlacing prolems are just look at my GTA IV YouTube video. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uFIoRSvrD1M If you can't see them, then I'm afraid you're probably blind, but if you really can't see them, they are most noticable on fast moving objects, expecially when I'm adjusting the camera angle suddenly. Hope this helps.

Ok people, I've just made a video which should hopefully put to rest any arguments as to what the problems are with the new screen. See it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isC1IOhQt_A&fmt=18 It also has extreme closeups which show the sub-pixel structure of both the Slim & Lite and the PSP-3000, which explains the "scanline-esq" look. Pay attention to the final 2 pictures which are annotated to show the ghosting of the PSP-2000 and the "interlacing" of the PSP-3000. More (higher quality) pics here: http://picasaweb.google.com/xythen/PSP3000# Let me know what you think! Message Edited by xythen on 10-18-2008 01:54 PM

Guys, after looking at few screenshots posted on this thread and also other webpages, it seemed to me that the LCD screen is installed at 90 degree angle in the psp-3000 compared to the psp slim. Looking at psp slim's screenshots, i can make out that the RGB pattern of the lcd screen goes from left to right, whereas in the psp-3000, the RGB pattern seemed to be going from bottom to top, indicating that the screen is installed at 90 degrees compared to the previous model. If this is so, it might affect the order the pixels are drawn on the screen, and is this the possible reason for those 'scanline' problems to appear on the screen? What is the rational of installing the RGB order top-down compared to left-right? Okay, i have a guess, if the screen is indeed installed at 90 degrees, can it be the pixels rows are refreshed left to right as opposed to the traditional top to bottom? As a first time PSP buyer, I was really happy playing with my brand new silver PSP-3001 (US R&C bundle version) until I saw this thread. I wasn't able to see anything wrong with my PSP screen because I don't have 2000 or 1000 series to compare with. (Or maybe I don't know "what to look for.") But to tell the truth, I was freaked out and thinking that I might make a bad investment for buying PSP "too early." (Who would have thought that, after two generations, PSP still has problems?) However, thanks xythen and KaiYi for the video and explanation. You guys really ease my mind a bit. Anyways, after few days of search and study on internet, I found some interesting screen test comparison pictures between PSP 2000 and 3000 posted on a Chinese website. http://iphone.cngba.com/iphone_yj/2008101954061_2.shtml The test is done using the video preview function (square "[]" button when view the video), and scroll though all the preview pictures left and right really quickly. In the picture, you can clearly see that there are horizontal lines, or scanline/interlaced lines, on 3000 model. And it happens to my PSP as well But I also notice that there are visible "vertical" lines on 2000 model. If those preview pictures are laid out vertically and scroll through from top to bottom, I wonder if the result would be reverse. I agree with what xythen has pointed out that 2000 and 3000 have completely different sub-pixel structure, and it does looks like what KaiYi said that they are at "90 degrees" different. In XMB and in games, we usually move the menu, pan the camera, or move the character left and right at larger degree but rarely "up and down," so we see those horizontal lines more easily. Here is a little test I really want to do: Turn the PSP 90 degrees left or right, and try to move the icons in "Settings" (in XMB), and see if there is any "lines." I did that on my PSP3001, and it does show something similar to those "vertical line" found on the PSP2000 in that test pictures. Since I don't have 1000 or 2000 series, could someone try this for me on their 1k or 2k models and see if there are any "lines"?

Thanks xythen for testing. I guess that is a hardware characteristic and probably won't be solved by firmware updates. I will still keep my 3001 since it is not really a hardware defect, and to be honest I didn't even notice those "lines/jags" until someone points it out on this board. Sometimes knowing less makes one's life happier. Still, I hope Sony can come out with a solution or replacement program (or at least a statement regarding this issue.)
