I decided to start this topic because it came up on another thread with respect to Beyond Good and Evil. Here is a reply from Flamespamtrol:

"PS2 Slimline Models 75001, 77001, 79001 and 90001 models will all have the same problems with the Beyond Good and Evil game.
This problem will occur in all these models since they all have the same chipset from the SCPH 750001 model.
If you played the game with an older slimline model SCPH 70001, SCPH70011, and SCPH 70012.
You will not experience this problem found in newer slimline models."

$CARFACE says that 'Scarface' also has problems.

I need to know if  Flamespamtrol is correct in their last statement that newer slims do not have problems, but there's also a contradiction in the whole paragraph (unless its a typo). I'm asking because I'm seriously considering getting a 90000 because my fat PS2 can't read DVD format anymore. I would assume that especially in the brand new 90000 line, that any issues would be resolved. Is it too soon to know seeing as how they've just begun showing up here in North America?

Note that the poster was "Play Station Reserve"; "FlameSpamTroll" is his Playstation network ID.

As far as his statement, I'm pretty sure you're just reading it wrong, although it's mainly due to poor sentence construction on his end.  The statement should read:

"If you play the game with an older slimline model SCPH 70001, SCPH70011, and SCPH 70012 you will not experience the problem found in newer slimline models."

He's saying that OLDER slimlines - the first first version of the slimline, does not have the problem.  All newer revisions DO have the problem.  I've got a 75001 which does have the problem; however Beyond Good and Evil is the only game I've played that has an issue with the slimline.  I know there are a few other compatibility issues though.  I remember reading somewhere when the 75001 first came out that there were some problems with some Tekken games.  I don't know if there's a concrete list of compatibility problems anywhere though.

I may be wrong, but I think the problems arised because in the 75001 and above they combined the main processor and graphics processor into one chip, whereas it was two separate processors in older models (including the older slimlines).  It's the redesigned chip that causes the problems - I thought they could have fixed them with BIOS or driver updates, but I guess not.

Thanks for all the clarification, sorry for the ID mix-up. So is the new 90001 slim subject to what you described (the integrated chips)? Would they not have taken the opportunity to fix any issues in this new sku/model? Is it too soon to tell due to the fact that the 90001 has just become available in N.A.? I apologize in advance if I'm repeating myself, but I just find it odd that they would not have gotten the PS2 right by now. I mean this is the  ~ 7th or 8th sku/model of PS2? C'mon Sony, come......on!

Also, where did you come by that list of games?

Where did you find that list of games?

Any recent news on compatibility issues with PS2 & PS1 games, memory cards - official or 3rd party?

Is it Possible that Guitar Hero World Tour is another game that will not work on the new slim line 900001 due to the chipseT? I cant get it to work on the 90000 but will work on the 77001 keep in mind thou, the game does play. I just cant get the wireless to sync with anything. but again all works well on the 77001. When I say not working Im refering to the wireless receiver.

Guitar Hero World Tour will not work on my SCPH-70012 either.  and that is in the group on not combined into one chip category.

Now this is all scaring me, since I was going to go buy a newwer PS2 tomorrow.  I am about to just bag the game and sony system all together.
