Ok, as have stated time and again, you really do NEED a Sony brand Playstation memory card to play Playstation games on a PS2. However, i have recently found an old "Performance" memory card that, so far, seems to work. Could others here please try this brand of card if you have it and confirm this.  It is a standard 15 block card.. Not one of those massive  multiple slot cards.

I still won't recommend that anyone BUY a performance card when a Sony is available. It would, however, be nice to have another option if no Sony card are available.

Well, here I am again....remember that site I told you about for new PSOne games? You can buy new PSOne memory cards from them as well. The last time I looked they go for $11.99....and they are Sony memory cards. So, if you care about that sort of thing like I do you don't ever have to use a third-party card again. Just go to www.gamequesrdirect.com and click on the playstation icon and then click on "playstation accessories". You don't really have any control over what color card you receive but as far as I'm concerned with how difficult it is find memory cards it makes very little difference. Like I said previously, you just can't go wrong with them....:smileyhappy:

I don't know about those cards.. i am told that a REAL Sony memory card will have a chip that fills the card.. I have several opaque cards and the chip does, in fact, fill the card. Counterfeit cards have chips that do not fill the card. The card that is pictured has a chip that does not fill the card.

Memory chips come in different configurations, so the physical size doesn't matter. What matters is the capacity of what's there. Years ago, computers needed a multitude of tubes that filled rooms, and look at how small they are today. :smileytongue:

Yes, it is important to note that i DO NOT KNOW what i am talking about... LOL.. really, someone told me that on this forum. No idea if it is true.  I know a fake PS2 card when i see it but simply by virtue of the fact that Sony never made a 32mb or 64mb card... But i really have no idea about the actual configuration of the chips, etc, in cards. As i stated, i have an orange and red opaque that have chips that fill the entire case. I have no idea if that is always the case.

Was this a discussion about fake MCs? I don't know if a card is fake or not, or how one would go about determining that; likewise, I don't know if the pcb of a MC is standardized, but I do know memory comes in various forms. If there's some PS standard, then maybe the size is an issue - oops. lol

As long as it's sold in retail stores and is compatible with the PS, then I'm willing to try it. :smileyhappy:

Yes, but we are talking about ONLINE stores and i have seen several that are selling "authentic Sony" 64mb memory cards.. These are counterfeit because (as i was told by the sony representative i spoke to on the phone) Sony NEVER made a 64mb memory card.. nor have they made ANY kind of memory card other than 8mb for the PS2. I tend to err on the side of caution. Who would have thought that piracy would reach all the way down to a ps2 memory card??

I've never heard of anything but trouble from third party cards.  They either corrupt files, don't work, or loose data.  I would never buy a non-Sony card.  Especially since I've had my PS1 card for almost 10 years and it still works, and I've had my PS2 card since the system came out, and it also works.

Ah.. gotcha; yea, I'm not aware of Sony ever making a large capacity MC for the PS or PS2 - though I have seen a few advertised as having 30 slots for the PS and 16 megs for the PS2. I'd suggest reporting anything shady to Sony... it may be innocent, but you may break a ring or something too.

IMO, that's one area Sony could really improve upon as I'd go with a name brand first and foremost, and the puny cards Sony does offer just don't cut the mustard for such a large library of games. :smileytongue:

i have already reported the counterfeit cards to sony.. and to ebay.. but the truth is, they have to pick their fights and i can't imagine Sony is really all that worried about a counterfeit memory card.

But does anyone have an original Sony brand memory card that has a chip that DOESN'T fill the card? I would really like to find out.. Wish i could remember who said it.
