So are the 1MB cards NOT the same as the 128kb cards?? I am a bit confused.. it seems no two sites agree as to the exact definition and meaning.. lol

No it would not be... 128Kb = 0.125 Mb... I know with all the original Ps1 memory cards the most I could save on there was 15 blocks... That also depends on the file size of the save... Some needed more than one block... I think the higher size memory cards for the Ps1 were third party... I never messed wth those...

yeah, ok.. Again, i am a bit confused.. cuz everyone keeps saying 1mb.. and some websites even said 1meg.. but all of mine are 122 available.. which would be 128 total, i think. I remember reading that the Playstation memory card actually had 16 slots worth of memory.. but one slot's worth was devoted to the directory.

If you put a Playstation memory card into a PS2 and then got browser, then click on your memory card, then select options on any gamesave, the ps2 reads it as 8kb. a block. If you have a regular card with fifteen blocks you could do the math (multiply 8 by 15) and you'll get a total of 120kb. total to use.

Iv'e also seen some generic memory cards that can hold more than that, but the 120kb. one is what I have.

All official Sony PSX memory cards are 128 KB (15 blocks of 8kb each + 8 kb for file manager).  There are some third-party manufacturers such as Datel that offer a compatible memory card of either 512 KB (4x or 60 blocks) or 1 MB (8x or 120 blocks), but they would be either crushed data or compressed.

Somebody fill me in if I'm missing something here...  :smileyhappy:

The figure of 128kb would make sense if there are 15 useable blocks at 8kb each with an additional block of 8kb dedicated to the directory.  All I really know is that the memory cards were incredibly expensive for the amount of memory you actually got.

i could go with the 128 @8kb per save and one left over for directory.. except that all mine have 122 available.. maybe the other 2kb would be eaten up if i had something saved.. i will have to try and see.
