I have for you the supposedly true latin names for each colossus roughly translated. (For any Latin majors or takers, you all know how hard it is to translate miniscule phrases or compound words like these)

Here is the order:
number of colossus) improper name - proper name - (latin name) - translated name
--------------------------------------
1) The Minotaur - Valus - (Minotaurus Colossus) - The Giant Minotaur

2) Taurus Major - Quadratus - (Taurus Magnus) - Great Bull

3) Earth Knight - Gaius - (Terrestris Veritas) - Earth Truth

4) Equus Prime - Phaedra - (Equus Bellator Apex) - Crown War Horse (or Crowned War Horse)

5) Deata Pheonix - Avion - (Avis Praeda) - Bird of Prey

6) The Goliath - Barba - (Belua Maximus) - Great Monster

7) Sea Dragon - Hydrus - (Draco Marinus) - Sea Dragon

8) Wall Shadow - Kuromori - (Parietinae Umbra) - Given Shadow

9) Storm Echo - Basaran - (Nimbus Recanto) - Storm Echo

10) Sand Tiger - Dirge - (Harena Tigris) - Sand Dragon

11) Flame Guardian - Celosia - (Ignis Excubitor) - Fire Protector

12) Great Basilisk - Pelagia - (Permagnus Pistrix) - Large Fish

13) Trial Drifter - Phalanx - (Aeris Velivolus) - Sail-bound Sky

14) Destruction Luster - Cenobia - (Clades Candor) - Radiant Destruction **

15) The Sentinel - Argus - Praesidium - (Vigilo) - Attentive Guard

16) Grand Gigas - Malus - (Grandis Supernus) - Grand Celestial

**The latin name for this colossus is actually wrong. The improper name, and the name given by Dormir is Destruction Luster: one who lusts for destruction. Whomever translated this name thought luster to mean the luster of a diamond or metal (the varability of being shiny). Thats why the latin name is Radiant Destruction (radiant being a synonym or derivitival word of luster).

Most of my latin translations are sloppy, because any of those given latin words could mean a plethora of words. I just chose the word closest to what I thought it would be. Some of the tranlations don't make sense, like Earth Truth for the Earth Knight, but thats how it is, so get over it.

And no, for you Harry Potter Fans, nimbus does not mean flight or sky, as suggested in the eariler name post, it means storm. Remember, the Nimbus 2000 had 'rain grips' for extra stability when raining.

This board is getting as deep as Halo was after it was first released.  It's nice to see so much interest in this game.  Thanks for the translations!

Do we even know where these names came from?  Because they're quite a bit different from the names on the official site.

Nice work. Interesting find about #14's name being wrong. Also for #15 I'd suggest Vigilant Guard as a better sounding translation.

They came from a Japanese source, IIRC.  Just wait until Viper answers the questions.
