June/July 09. Check it out below.
Volume 2 here. (click titles for trailers)
The Last Airbender
Can M. Night Shamalananananan's first adaptation revive him from the smelly pit that started with the incredibly stinky The Village, got a little less smelly but still smelly with Lady in the Water and then got even a little less smelly with The Happening but still kinda stanky? Well, I hope so. Sure looks like a change of pace, but it may just be his ticket back on top. Unbreakable, Signs, The Sixth Sense - bring that guy back! (also note, the adaptation is from the cartoon series etc. known as Avatar: The Last Airbender -- but the studio got scared that James Cameron's upcoming best-movie-ever Avatar would overshadow it if they had the same name. Hey, I'd be scared too.)
Ponyo
A very cool looking animated picture from the creator of Spirited Away. It's got an all star voice cast (now that it's north-americanized) and looks like it could be a cool trip. Check out the trailer, not your ordinary animated tale, not to imply that it's a dark evil tale or anything, but well - just watch the trailer, you'll see what I mean.
'Untitled Michael Moore Project'
Love him or hate him... well it doesn't really matter, because he doesn't care if you hate him. I mean, I actually kinda think he likes you more if you hate him... did anybody else hear about the story where the guy who ran the biggest anti-Michael Moore website went bankrupt or something because of the economy and couldn't keep the site going, so Michael Moore wrote him an anonymous cheque to get him back on his Michael Moore hating feet? Anyways, check out the new 'trailer', more like a tease, but I had a little chuckle. Apparently they showed this in some theatres and ushers actually walked up and down the isles accepting donations.
Zombieland

Move over Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland is going to challenge you for the horror comedy title. God damn you Woody Harrelson This looks great! Click the damn link!
Street Dreams

A new coming of age slash skateboarding flick that actually has some potential and seemingly, a good amount of heart. Will it surpass Lords of Dogtown for the best non-doc skateboarding movie? Who knows, it very well could. Come June 12th, we'll know. (well actually it's already past June 12, but the movies not playing in my city and never was - so I guess I'll be waiting for the video release )
Last Ride
Hugo Weaving's new pic and... wait what? He's not a giant evil robot? An evil computer virus? Some weird ass elf king creature thing? Yeah that's right, it's payback time. And I don't know for what - but this movie looks really good. A father-son type movie with a dark twist it seems. I'm interesting, -- **bleep** I meant to say I'm interested, but hey I guess it's true - I am interesting. ah click the link .
Ong Bak 2
Pretty damn cool trailer from the current martial arts phenoms sequel to the movie that made him big worldwide. Looks pretty cool as honestly the first wasn't all that, but either this trailer is just really constructed well or the movie is gonna be damn awesome as well. Trailer looks pretty killer, over the top yes, but that's what all this **bleep**s about. Cheers.
Fifty Dead Men Walking

I'm not that stoked about this one, though it could be good. The visual style reminds me in parts of the classic Tom Jane flick Stander, but that doesn't have anything to do with this. Anyways, the real reason why I'm putting this up for you is well... just watch the trailer, and wait near 3/4 of the way through when **bleep** starts getting intense and they start flashing quotes across the screen. I mean, they're totally serious here, like really. They actually chose 'you should see this film' as a quote to put in the trailer. God I'll buy 10 tickets just for that kind of trailer making
The Goods

Watch this trailer. Now. Finally the amazing Jeremy Piven (Smokin' Aces, Entourage, etc.) gets his own starring flick and boy does he look like he's doin what he does or what. Yes! This trailer just won the award for the best trailer ever in NMTB Volume 3 award award award in the award show of trailers in this thread award show awards. No, really. I just gave it that. Cake and strippers come later. Anyways, this looks **bleep**in hilarious. Click link if 18+ only. Can. Not. Wait.
The Road
Although it's already showing differences from the source material, I still have very high hopes for this one. Based on the great post apoctalyptic book and starring Viggo/the man trekking through the dangerous unknown in a mysterious but plausable post apoctalyptic earth. Best of luck Viggo.
The Time Traveler's Wife
Yay, a romantic dramadey. Alright, I got a little too excited... Ah who'm I kidding, yeah - I may not be a fan of the sappy but this is another one that struck me as 'hey this might actually be watchable'. Not my first choice if I was looking for a movie to watch, but it does look pretty cool. Hopefully it hits all the right spots and all that, acting wise, script wise, all I can say is the plot looks pretty cool.
Daybreakers
Very cool looking new vampire flick, that doesn't seem to follow the same old same old. Puts a big new spin on things with a almost fully vampire populated world where the remaining humans are hunted and harvested for blood and well, there's a lot more - so click the trailer. Looks pretty damn cool.
Public Enemies
When it was first announced, I was excited. I thought it had a lot of potential. When pictures and videos (trailers etc.) started coming out... I thought all hope was lost. I was just totally uninterested with whatever they were presenting, I mean - what went wrong? Now, well, I've sucked it up a bit and gone back and sort of 'examined' the clips and trailers, and although it definetly isn't what I hoped for and was expecting, I'm kinda gettin a feel for it now, especially with the international trailer. Check it out if you haven't already.
Precious
Ah, blaxploitation at it's finest. Ah knock it off I'm kidding. Anyways, the movie comes out of hell knows where but actually looks like it may be a solid watch. Hell, Oprah even put her name on it - it must be good.
Gamer
I'm not gonna describe this one cause well, I'm pretty sure I already made a lengthy post and/or thread about it in the past. Here's another 'if you ain't seen it yet, here's your big chance bucko' opportunity, so it's all you. To sum up my reaction to this, well, at first hearing of it and for about the first 1/4 of the trailer I thought it was going to be retarded, cheesy as hell and just a pain to watch. Then the rest of the trailer kicked in and I was actually surprised, I'm actually diggin this one, I really think they can pull it off.
Shrink
Kevin Spacey. Interesting plot. Comedy probably ensues. Hey, here's one ticket sold... or rental. Anyways, for all of you greedy **bleep** who want more - copy and pasted: "What happens when the people we count on to hold us together…are barely holding it together themselves? Jonas Pate’s Shrink is a striking, fast-paced exposé of the “other” Hollywood, featuring folks living outside their comfort zone and the people who put them there. Henry Carter (Kevin Spacey) is a psychiatrist with an A-list clientele, including a once-famous actress (Saffron Burrows), an insecure young writer (Mark Webber), and a comically obsessive-compulsive superagent (Dallas Roberts). Henry is not in a good place, however. He has been asked to take his first pro bono case, a troubled teenage girl from a neighborhood far from the Hollywood hills. Considering his present state of mind, is he ready for the real-life troubles of a young woman who loves the world of movies he has become so jaded by? At its core, Shrink is a study of control and our endless need for it, even when it grows increasingly impossible to obtain. Writer Thomas Moffett uses classic archetypes in this modern Hollywood tale, but never pushes them over the edge of credibility. Performed by a well-matched cast at the top of their form, the result is both satisfying and exhilarating. Watching Shrink makes us feel like voyeurs looking through a window into the lives of people who look great, feel worse, and end up behaving badly." Happy now?
Pontypool
What more can you want? Zombies, flashing quotes in the trailer that make it sounds awesome, the guy at the beginning who's always like 'the following recording has not been edited in any shape or form. What you are about to hear is real', hell the movies even called Pontypool! aaaand that's where I'm gonna end this description, I know - most informative one I've done yet. Cheers.
Sherlock Holmes
Hey, if you haven't seen it yet. See it. ...there's nothing more to this description, just click the damn link if you haven't seen it. Seriously I wasn't kidding, this is a take it or leave it thing, hell I don't even know why I'm still typing, but I sure as hell know your still reading, so what's the deal dude, ya gonna click the link or not?
9
Yeah I know I've been plugging this one for a while, but seriously - I ain't gonna stop. This one looks great, and I can not wait to see this one in theatres! Anyways, short and sweet, a brand spanking new trailer is upon us (trailer 2) and it's a pretty cool one at that, gives us a look at each of the 9 as well as some extra backstory and such.
It Might Get Loud

It's a documentary that's straight up and to me, a bit out of the blue - especially considering my love of music and rock n roll. Anyways, three guitarists come together to try to stop a gopher uprising in the middle east. ...alright half of that was bull**bleep**. The real story is three legendary (yes I know, based on opinion) guitarists, The Edge (U2), Jack White (The White Stripes) and Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) got together not that long agoand made a film. Really. It looks great, should give a lot of info about each of them, how they got started, etc. etc. etc. individually AND interaction between the three featured legends. Each from a different genre and style, not to mention generation. Should be a real treat.
Bruno
Honestly, I hope this is gets as big as Borat. Both are genius characters and SBC is an amazing comedian. Even more honestly though, his best creation, is also his most underrated and unknown... Ali G. For now though, we got Bruno to watch this year, and hell if it doesn't look funny as **bleep**. He was my least favourite character on the show, not to say I disliked him or anything, but damn the **bleep** he's goin for in the film looks hilarious. (maybe we'll even get a full fledged big budget Borat/Bruno style Ali G movie in the future... Indahouse was amazing, but no one even saw it )
Surveillence
After the potentially awesome but inevitably disappointing State of Play, I need a good new thriller to hit the theatres. This one may just be unique and cool enough to do the job. The trailers got me excited, click for more. Plus, whens the last time you saw Bill Pullman? Independance Day? Lake Placid?
District 9
Check out this awesome new viral video ad for the upcoming sci-fi thriller District 9. If you haven't heard of this film already, go to the top of this thread and check out the past two volumes of NMTB and you'll see everything you need to know. And trust me, this is something you need to know about. After you've checked out both the subtitled and un subtitled trailers (must check out both, first unsub then the other, see how it changes your view) check out this little doozy here. Very cool. UPDATE! two more virals up, the second a sort of PSA like ad, but that deals with the situation of D9, pretty cool, kinda similar to the first one (above) and the second a very cool sort of 'educational' look at the aliens and how they work/reproduce etc, also showing an 'egg' at the end. Cool stuff, check it below. Viral 2 Viral 3
The Final Destination
With much of the key crew from Final Destination 2, argueably the best in the series, back in action for this one - hopefully they can redeem the very mediocre FD3. From the looks of the trailer though, at least to me, it seems like it'll be better than FD3... maybe. That's not a good thing though, it really shouldn't be that sketchy. Anyways, we'll just have to wait and see, the next trailer will be pivotal in showing what this movies really got. Still don't know whats up with hollywood and giving **bleep**loads away in the trailers - that's not the point! (I'm looking at your Final Destination and Shutter Island)
Shutter Island

The film looks great, but they give WAY too **bleep**ing much away in the trailer. I mean come on hollywood, jesus. Anyways, this upcoming thriller done by gangster flick maestro Martin Scorsese and starring Leo 'I'm the king of the woorrrrrld' DiCaprio looks like it'll be pretty interesting, entertaining and well done. Popcorn and the edge of my seat please, thanks.
Cold Souls
The great Paul Giamatti's new role is playing the actor... Paul Giamatti. Really. What's even better in this wacked out tale is that he starts feeling weird, so he meets up with this odd corporation who say they know of a cure for what he's feeling. To remove his soul. Of course he agrees, they remove his soul, but then a couple days after... he starts feeling the effects and doesn't like it. He goes back to try to get his soul back, they can't find it and hilarity and awesomeness ensue. Awesome. Should be good.
2012
We've talked about this one before, and have been watching that teaser trailer over and over sweating in our wait for another glimpse at the next great mass destruction flick and well--I'mma shut up now. The new trailer is here, and it's a doozy. Check it. UPDATE: some fine gent from across the interwebs has gone out of his way to make his own custom trailer for this flick and, if it wasn't worth mentioning, I wouldn't mention it. But this is just pure gold, it's the new 2012 trailer (above) cut in a different way, with music, titles and more -- the catch? The guy made it in the style of 70's era disaster flicks, and the trailer just wants me to see it more. Looks like great mindless fun (no great story depth? no great character depth? It doesn't matter! Plane destruction! Landmark destruction! Surfing planes! Flying Bently's! Black president? RIDICULOUS! ) Classic. Check it out below. CLICK HERE...!!!
The Box
From Richard Kelly, one of the best writer/directors out there (Southland Tales, Donnie Darko, Domino) comes his new baby, The Box. Starring Cyclops and Cameron Diaz it's about well, another oddball story that's pretty interesting already. A very down on their luck couple find a weird package (a box) on their doorstep and take it inside. Soon after a stranger comes by the house and explains them what's inside the box, and what happens if they push the button. Needless to say, it looks pretty damn cool. The only beef I have is the music at the end of the trailer. No. That's Saw music. I don't give a **bleep** if it's not fully licensed or if it was even created specifically for the Saw franchise, the fact of the matter is, that music is the theme to the Saw films. It's the same way whenever I hear the Reqiuem music being used in movies (although usually just previews/trailers) -- ugh. Hopefully it's not in the movie, other than that though, I have high hopes for this one.
see ya next time! Cheers. Message Edited by WP-DFA on 08-30-2009 03:43 PM
